In a deleted scene from the script Ripley found the alien’s hive with the Warden and a few other prisoners. I think once it had enough bodies to use as hosts, it started killing off the rest because it saw them as threats to its survival.

Xenos don't share the same compassion for convicted criminals and was trying to lighten up the tax costs to that the compliant citizens could get fatter and therefore make for a better breeding grounds for its offspring
It's all there in Alien(s) and Prometheus if you go looking for it
“Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.” ( Ephesians
4:26
)
“Say to them: ‘For the generations to come, if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean and yet comes near the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the Lord, that person must be cut off from my presence. I am the Lord.” ( Leviticus
22-3
)
Oh, and black goo is important too but that's too deep for someone like you
