I've seen the uncut version and liked the movie for what is was. So tonight around 3am I see it's on Cinemax and its been a while so I figured I would watch it since I couldn't sleep. My God they hacked it almost to PG-13! First off it's Cinemax, it's 3am and the rating listed is NC-17 but every scene is either cut way short of eliminated altogether. The rape scene last about 5 seconds (no exaggeration) and if this would've been my first time watching, I would have had no clue there was a rape and who it was that was raped.
Second, the infamous car scene cuts off way before anything happens. He asks if they've been "bad girls" then cut scene. No masturbation, butt in the air or simulated "BJ". The scene when he was doing drugs and dancing nude was completely cut. He meets the red head, they talk for a few seconds, then cut scene.
I'm sure there's more, but its been awhile since I saw the uncut version so my frame of reference is skewed.
Why would they do this on a pay channel (especially Cinemax), late at night (the On Demand version is also cut the same way) yet still list it as NC-17? It's just awful and completely ruins the movie, the director's artistic vision and the realism/gritty feel of the original.
So, unless you're curious, if you see this on Cinemax, just skip it. It's a waste of time. -

I just saw this today and was glad as it's been over ten years since I've watched the uncut version. The only version I've ever seen actually.
Watching this and then WTF!? Aside from the language, you could show this version on the Disney Channel. Shame.

Well, no wonder I was underwhelmed after wanting for years to see this and finally finding it on Cinemax. This explains why it felt so jumpy (other than the jumpiness we were supposed to get from the character) and disjointed instead of something cohesive. I appreciated the grittiness and realistic feel, but it just seemed like something was missing. Now I know why.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue. -

I just watched it on Cinemax too, and yep, sure enough it is listed as the "NC-17" version but it was clearly the butchered R-rated cut, missing the same moments that you mention. I just had to go to YouTube to watch the missing and/or extended scenes, which is kind of an annoyance to have to do. F-ck Cinemax for mislabeling their version of the film.
