I'm confused: Was Jody (the soldier) gay? Did he know of Dil's biological sex?

Jody most definitely knew. Dil said as much, and even without that she hinted at it quite a bit.
As to Jody's sexuality, I'd say he was either bisexual, pansexual or gay only for Dil. He doesn't seem to have an issue with women per se, judging by Jude(Even though he said himself that she wasn't his type), so I would hesitate to call him exclusively gay.
And it remains unclear whether Dil would accept that term, since she is quite certain of her gender.
Basically, that's a question without a clear answer. But the best guess would be that Jody's either bisexual, pansexual or homosexual for Dil, like Fergus.

Jody, I don't think, was "bisexual" as much as he was heterosexual, but just "gay" because maybe had developed romantic feelings for Dil as a "woman," & then upon the discovery Dil was actually transgendered, then Jody was able to get around that issue in his mind. I definitely wouldn't have called him gay nor even bi simply because it's clear he was straight because of his attraction towards Jude. I think he just told Jude he wasn't attracted to her as a defense because she helped adult nap him.

Wow, what? Do you even know what bisexual means? Or did you put it in speech marks do emphasise that you have no idea that bisexuality exists?
Jody was most definitely NOT straight. Because to some degree, even if just a little, the trope you are referring to, the "If it's you, it's okay" trope, is at least slightly, if not blatantly, bisexual territory.
Besides, it would be way too ridiculous if Jody had had the same story as Fergus. If that had been the case, Dil would have known to say something about being transgender before.
Nothing you say makes any sense. Think again.
Also, it's called either "kidnapped" or "abducted".

I think Jody knew about Dil from the beginning because he told Fergus to take Dil to the Metro. I assumed Jody had gone there knowing it was a gay/drag club and that's when he met Dil.

Doesn't this thread illustrate the ridiculousness of labels? For the purpose of communication, they make sense, but the insistence of putting people into categories reeks, ever so faintly, of fascism.

Because people are attracted to make up not bodies
Exactly, some men are simply attracted to all the drag: dresses, frills and make up a person wears. That's what gets them going more so than what gender the person is. Of course, it always helps if the person has a penis too, so I'll say either a repressed homosexual or they want to be a female themselves. It's hard to say.
Do I drink because my dreams don't come true, or don't my dreams come true because I drink?
