What's the point of the aliases if they all knew Joe?

If one of the robbers got caught, the use of the color aliases would make it difficult for the police to reach the others - but the police would probably be more interested in catching the mastermind who planned the whole thing. All robbers were acquainted with Joe and knew about him enough to incriminate him. So what's the point of using the aliases in the first place?

Yes, they would probably be more interested in catching Joe, but even if they did, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't rat anyone out.
If God exists, why did he make me an atheist? That's his first mistake. That and the talking snake. -

The point was that it sounds cool.
But it's utterly illogical.

Because the police would like some corroboration. If they only catch one and he breaks (Who's your boss? Joe.) it's not enough for a conviction. It's just one guy's word against another.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
