Originally I watched the show through the next to last season. There was a void in the show when Esai Morales left, and the addition of Currie Graham to season 12 didn't complete the void, it constipated it. He is brilliant at playing unlikeable characters, but I don't think that's what the show needed, unless the showrunners were purposefully tanking it for behind scene's reasons. Does anyone agree, or have I missed a thread that's covered this point?
Also, since I'm watching the last season in reruns, because Graham's character was intolerable to watch back then, and still is now, why does Bill Brochtrup get no opening credit, or any on screen credit besides his appearance in the opening credits for the main characters of the show?

I didn't mind him. He did execute some changes and everyone needed. He held clark accountable. He got Andy to do things his way. He eventually came around to being a nice guy.

In reference to Bill Brochtrup name credit, it's been over 12 years since I first viewed the final season of "NYPD Blue" and unless I'm mistaken, Brochtrup was credited on the original ABC broadcast of the series. I've recently re-watched the show on the DirecTV/Audience Network. It's possible that it may have been a post-production error on the part of the people responsible for editing opening credits. He is credited on season 11 but it looks like his name didn't appear like the other performers.
At the same time, some actors request that their names be removed from the title's credits for numerous reasons. I don't believe this is the case. This is just my opinion. I'm not certain if this error can easily be corrected by 20th Century Fox Television.

Curie, like so many other characters that ended up being regulars, were criminals or had bit parts in earlier episodes. Law and Order does this a lot too.
Anyway, I thought he did well as the jerk off captain. He ended up going out on a limb for Sipowicz which shows character growth.

I came in here to ask the same question about Bill B's lack of opening credit.

He didn't tank the season, it was already planned to be the last season. I think he was a great character, forcing Andy to make some life changing decisions. His relationship with Andy grew tremendously in that short amount of time.
