Should they have involved the kids and C.C. a little more? It seems like they were going more with the humor that centered around Fran and her Jewish family. I know it was her show and she gets to make the final decisions, but I thought the barbs traded between Niles and C.C. were gold. The kids were hardly used and Val, her friend got more time. I thought that character was totally useless.

I guessing that you and I are watching two different shows. It seemed to me that CC and the kids were on a lot, now if you want a show where the kids were not seen as much watch Everybody Loves Raymond. Even through I do agree with you 100% on the barbs that went back and forth between CC and Niles. I didn't think Val was Val was useless but I guess they wanted to have Fran;s character have a close female friend, just again like on her later on tv series Happily Divorced. Expect for her close female friend on the latter series was also a singer as well, and in my opinion not a very good one either. But if you want to check it out on dvd, the first season has been out the first episode she sang in was episode #2.

I beg to differ, the kids were probably on every episode but only for a quick appearance (and maybe to say one line or two). Fran's mother, Yetta, and Val characters got more and more involved as the series went on. On Everybody Loves Raymond, they already had their established stars Ray, Debra, Robert, Marie, and Frank. As for Happily Divorced, I saw a couple of episodes but I just lost interest.

That wasn't the reason I lost interest. It may have been the premise. CC and Niles were just strong and likable supporting characters that helped make the Nanny special. You can have the most non believable premise, but if you have great supporting characters, some how it becomes a hit.

I see what you mean. C.C. and the kids were mostly "just there". Sure, they had good screen time, but when it came to STORYLINES, they had very little. Maggie seemed to get more storylines than the others. Also, I noticed there isn't an episode with any of these characters involving just them and their friends or a lover. Their presence and roles have always been built around and involved Fran, Max, and Niles in some way.
