Why is the Artisan DVD edited?

I read that a lot of stuff was cut from this version. If that's true, why in the world would that happen?

Yeah, it's just come back into print so I bought it thinking that if it was cut it would just be a few frames here and there to lessen the gore but there's entire scenes missing!! Wes Craven isn't even in the dvd version now (and I only know that because I remembered it from years ago, there's probably more stuff missing that I've forgotten about). Doesn't make sense at all why they'd cut this up in such a way.

I wrote to Lion's Gate about it a couple of weeks ago (since they now own it). I requested that they re-release it the RIGHT way. I told them that I didn't care if it was without extras, as long as they restored all the footage.
