Shouldnt it be called the bad son?? And Elijah Wood was the nephew so he's not the son but he was obviously the good one. I was always confused at the title of this movie when I was younger lol

It was supposed to be ironic, at least that's how I thought it was supposed to be. Henry is this angelic looking child, with his blonde hair, cute little squishy face and blue eyes. He just looks like a good kid whereas Mark is suffering from hurt/depression due to his own mother's death that they automatically think he is acting out when stuff happens.
Even when Mark witnesses the atrocities, he's shocked. Same with the mother, when Mark tells her she doesn't believe him, when Henry attacks her, she doesn't want to believe her child is the spawn of Satan.
So, it's an ironic title. -

I agree, but I also take into account the fact that Mark believes that Susan has become his mother now after his own had died. Therefore, she has two sons, with one being a little turd (to put it mildly). -

Come on down South; I'll be happy to get the ball rolling. I'm sure there are quite a few people on IMDb who'd be willing to carry on the tradition.
Welcome to my Ignore list. Make yourself at home; there are 3 other a$$4oles there to keep you company.

What a looser, you come on a thread about, "The Good Son" and some stupid snark is the best you can do-obviously can't play with the big boys-go back to your playpen and/or the unemployment line.

That's because people like you lack the testicles to talk your s+_+ in person. I've seen it countless times when I used to use AOL chat rooms. The rudest people never showed up to the functions and the ones who did kept their mouths shut in person.

the movie, in order to justify the end, tried to make it look like that wood's mother's soul got into the body of culkin's mother.
i mostly will not be able to answer your reply, since marissa mayer hacked my email, no notification -

To me when you watch the movie you get the answer. The movie turns out to be which one she wants to save. The last words of the movie is wood saying something like would she do it over again, aka the question is which one would you save. And the answer at the end is The Good Son.

It's more than just an ironic title, it's also because his parents were never willing to believe that he was "evil" before it was too late. They wanted to think of him as a good kid, in spite of all the evidence. His mom only accepted the truth at the end.
The Salem witch trials were the same way. People were executed because of the stories that the "innocent" children made up, simply to avoid punishment themselves for minor things. Terrible things happen when people are afraid to doubt the innocence of children. I don't think it's a coincidence that the film takes place in the New England area. -
