When the fence falls on Hercules "The Beast". It's not the killer that they thought it was. It was just a dog. Smalls shows real bravery to try to help the dog when it's crushed by the fence. The rest of them coward from it and are still terrified. He tells Benny to help and together they help lift the fence.
The dog goes face to face with Smalls and starts licking his face. Then shows them to the balls it has collected.
Really a terrific scene to finish off a great story.

I concur. In my eyes, this scene is easily one of the most memorable - and perfect - in the movie.
You want something corny? You got it!

Remember, you're not brave if you aren't terrified. You do something that has to be done because you are afraid. If you aren't afraid, then it's either something that you don't need to be afraid of, or you're a fool.
Bravery is when you run once more into withering fire because it has to be done.

Great scene. The fence falling was alluding to the fact that when you're growing up, you will eventually learn a lesson in the difference between imagination and reality. That was their moment. They had come of age, especially Smalls.
