Tombstone is without a doubt one of my favourite 'modern' westerns. It's just brilliant in every way and while it may not have the epic feel of Dances With Wolves it's contained and concentrated enough to match it in just entertainment.
It's made all the better that it was actually Kurt Russell who unofficially directed the film. The man obviously has a talent for drawing out strong performances from actors and I'm surprised he hasn't officially directed anything else.like ever!
I'm sure George Cosmatos did his part and dealt with all the nitty gritty behind the scenes but this may actually be Kurt's shining moment as it's not only one of his best performances but his talent is ingrained in everyone else's too.

I doubt Russell did any actual directing. Why has he not directed any films prior or since? Sounds like he was more like a coach or hands on producer, maybe supervising director at best.
What do you say, you dumb bitch? -

He did direct it. he gave Cosmatos a list of things daily that he was looking for. Cosmatos was taken in upon suggestion by Sylvester Stallone to (Kurt Russell) who had a similar relationship with him for one of the Rambo films. When Jarre was fired from the film it was all KR.
