Obviously all episodes now are dated and by definition Season 1 is the most dated, but whenever I watch anything from that Season, it feels relatively more dated than the rest.
I also think Season 1 has some really weird stuff and weird people that would have seemed really out of place in later seasons. -

Agreed. I really don't enjoy Season 1 very much. It's like a completely different show for me. The characters being in their infant stages is odd to watch in retrospect. It feels impersonal somehow.
Also, the jokes were extremely light and breezy at that time and all seemed to revolve around being unlucky in love, with that "Aw Shucks" ultra-mature and optimistic kind of humor of the 90s culture. In later seasons, the jokes became edgier and centered more around the characters' oddities. Character-driven shows are usually the best. -

Light and breezy?
They snuck the odd line in there…
…it also brought the term 'Friend-zone' into popular culture in 'TOW the Blackout'.
TBH the first season is so old that jokes have become dated and then back to relevance again, such as the Power Rangers joke in 'TOW the Ick Factor'.
Nothing wrong with Season One. -

I actually liked the way some of season one was done. I like some of the conversations the character had about random things - it made them seem like really people (not that they didn't in other episodes), but I just think Friends could have kept more of this from season one, and still been the same show. I understand them getting rid of certain things, like the Mr. Heckles running joke (clich of the era or not, they would have run out of things for him to do eventually), but I think that discussions of season one could have stayed.

Quote by iducart:
It became a hit after season 1. Nice try though!
I was actually in my 20s when the show first aired and remember how it was an immediate hit from day one with that age group.
Just look at the viewer ratings of season one which isn't any lower than following seasons. Nice try to you. -

You're wrong. I'm in the UK and was 18/19 when the 1st season premiered here in April 1995. There was a lot of press and public interest in the new HIT American show that was about to start. It was already a success.

I've always felt the same way. Season 1's camera quality and clothing and hairstyles seem drastically more dated than even S2. But a lot of the humor is what I don't like. Lines like, "that was Joey tribbiani with the big picture," and "this is where you use that hello word we talked about" are jut not funny and that kind of humor isn't present in later seasons. There are a lot of moments and episodes that I really do like, but every time I re-watch the series I feel a little bit like I have make it through S1.
