Why was it okay with Monica that richard smoked cigars

But she was disgusted with the fact that Chandler smoked? Arent cigars worse for your health and worse in smell yet she couldn't even stand to be near rachel when she smoked one cigarette at work.

- Cigarettes are generally considered to be worse for you.
- Chandler was chain smoking. Richard had an occasional cigar.
- She knew Chandler tried hard to quit and didn't want him falling back into the habit.
- Most importantly, Chandler smoked around her and the others. In the coffee house, in the car, in their apartments. Richard went on the balcony by himself, away from her, so she isn't getting second hand smoke or the smell on her clothes and apartment. Chandler was actually a dick when it came to smoking for that reason. He didn't even have the decency to go outside and smoke, he just lit up right in front of them and didn't care. If you're going to smoke, the nice thing to do is go away from everyone else and outside so they don't have to deal with your disgusting habit. He was selfish and thought only of himself, not anyone else.

I thought she mentioned she loves the smell. I remember an episode where she just lit one for no reason because she enjoyed it

That was after her breakup with Richard. The smell probably just reminded her of him. She was also watching videos on The Civil War that she ordered for Richard, because he loved that. So best not to put much weight on it. This is the same Monica who thought to pick up and play with Richard's shower drain hair. It took her a min. to realize that was gross.
If you're gonna pretend to cut her hair, at least put some scissors in your hand!

What Arnold said. Also, people usually don't inhale cigars. And they smell much better than cigarettes. Smoking the occasional cigar on the balcony is much different than smoking "3 big fat cartons in 2 days!" Lol
