For the life of me, I don't get how people can like one show and hate the other. They're so intertwined it makes the most sense to watch both.
That said, I'm in the minority with that mindset, it seems….

Well I like the actress who plays Xena. But the actor who plays Hercules annoys me. He's miscast in the role.
Hercules should be played by a guy like the dude in Jason & the Argonauts:

They purposely avoided casting a person like that.
That said, I don't get hung up on the not looking Greek thing. 90% of the cast on both shows is from New Zealand so I just roll with it and have fun….
The best is when the New Zealand actors can't pronounce the "r" in Hercules, but they add an "r" to the end of Xena….

Why? The guy just doesn't look like Hercules. Why not put a darker guy in the role? Will it offend Anglos?

That's the way they wanted it? I'm not sure why but they specifically said they didn't want a big burly dude for their Hercules.
Granted, I remember being thrown off as well at the time. But, having a TV that only gets one channel on the antenna limited my TV options. So I eventually got sucked in.
At the end of the day, I'll give any show that Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert produce a shot because I've loved all of them.

I can see why they wouldn't want some guy with massive muscles. I just object to an Anglo playing a Greek.
