This is a great movie, but I don't understand why it is 3-4 times more expensive to buy than virtually all much more successful movies.
    Anyone know why?

Amazon says that the item has been discontinued.

Ever hear of Supply and Demand? When demand is high, and supply is low, prices go up.

Yep, it's out of print, which naturally makes it worth more. You can get it overseas though for less - just make sure your player can play it. Also, as far as I can tell, only the American release has the Wilford Brimley narration which was added by the studio. I believe the UK and French releases only have the Director's preferred audio with no narration. Also, the French release is supposedly the only one that is both in the original aspect ratio and enhanced for widescreen TVs. The Out of Print US release is in the original aspect ratio but not enhanced for widescreen tvs. The UK release is zoomed in, but it's enhanced for widescreen tvs.

            http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/127223/Last-Of-The-Dogmen/Product.html
Available in the UK (with or without the IMO useless Narration via DVd option)
I'll happily send this to anyone in The USA who requires a copy if you pay postage

I totally lucked out and found the original DVD (in widescreen) in a thrift shop for $4 a few years ago.
