This offbeat film is a nice testament to the new age cinematic/storytelling focus on teamwork and networking, which are very important in this modern civilization which is gauged by profiteerism-related networking (e.g., European Union, NATO, Wall Street, etc.).
Here's a G.I. Joe paramilitary comic book stylized short-story I wrote, which was inspired by the democracy-critique themes in
The Usual Suspects
.
Do you think Keyser Soze would be Duke or Snake Eyes?G.I. Joe was a collection of rag-tag 'crusaders' using methods of pedestrian vigilantism to promote democratic values and American pride. The 'Joes' were primarily movie stars (e.g., Tom Cruise), media personalities (e.g., Steve Jobs), political critics (e.g., Dinesh D'Souza), and U.S. Navy Seals. G.I. Joes had to contend with the nefarious terrorist organization Cobra, which was comprised of offbeat celebrities (e.g., Leo DiCaprio), social outlaws (e.g., Charles Manson), Internet hackers, and rogue agents of ISIS and the IRA (Irish Republican Army).
Cobra was planning a well-coordinated invasion of Washington D.C. during the inauguration of President Donald Trump, a finance-wizard and critic of laissez-faire capitalism. The invasion involved a hacking of computer-security protocols, a pirate-media signal broadcast, and of course, a masked unit of 'machine-gun preachers.' However, the American movie star (and G.I. Joe member, aka 'Duke') Tom Cruise showed up in disguise as well as a U.S. Navy Seal (an Algerian-American Yale graduate named Abishai) and broke up the invasion with tear-gas grenades.
After dispelling Cobra, the G.I. Joes elected Tom Cruise (aka, 'Duke') as its unofficial supreme chief, and Abishai (aka, 'Snake Eyes') was elected as Commander. Duke was in charge of all political tidings and PR clean-up management as well as labor allotments, while Snake Eyes was given the task of organizing all security procedures as well as weapons inventories and intellectual property lockdowns, so Cobra would not use its various 'celebrity' members to martyrize its pro-terrorism initiatives and goals. While the G.I. Joes were thrilled with their successes (and the Joe members Charlize Theron and Kurt Russell were elected as its official 'American bishops'), Cobra continued to scheme, and Cobra's self-proclaimed 'nihilist' and celebrity Leo DiCaprio (aka, 'Serpentor') wanted to create suspicion in the press about G.I. Joe leadership.
The Washington Post published an anonymous letter sent in by a mysterious 'concerned American citizen' (it was in fact Leo DiCaprio who sent the letter) who wanted to critique the intellectual integrity of the G.I. Joes:
"It has come to my attention that the G.I. Joe Commander Snake Eyes was involved in an opium-smuggling operation that stretched from Amsterdam to British Columbia. Furthermore, the G.I. Joe supreme chief Duke was involved in an alimony suit with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman (now dubiously given the social honor as 'Joe priestess' by comic book writers). Why are individuals such as Duke and Snake Eyes given the task of leading a morally-weak nation led by an unscrupulous president (Donald Trump)? Such foolishness reveals the 'odd sainthood' of Cobra!!"
Snake Eyes and Duke were horrified at this article and wanted to dispel any rumors that G.I. Joe was comprised of unethical gluttons and profiteers who were willing to use nihilistic methods simply to win and punish members of Cobra. Snake Eyes wrote an eloquent Internet blog as a retort to the Washington Post article:
"I believe that article was written by the American celebrity Leo DiCaprio who may be secretly the Cobra 'half-emperor' Serpentor! Cobra is willing to slander and undermine the patriotic efforts of G.I. Joe to create panic and mistrust among the American people, but Duke is a very effective leader and spokesperson of G.I. Joe, and other Joes such as 'Lady Jaye' (Charlize Theron) and 'Beach-Head' (Dan Quayle) are successful 'diplomats' of pro-democracy ethics! As someone who is not shy to say that Snake Eyes represents the valor and espionage-skills of the G.I. Joe forces, I have to tell you that to defend America, which is indeed morally-troubled, you have to see through the capitalism-corruption (e.g., Enron) and find the offbeat heroism (e.g., JFK)! Yo, Joe!!"GI Joe/Cobra Force Collage (Pinterest):
