Nice to see that personal hygiene standards are so high on the atoll; Jeanne Tripplehorn's character's teeth were so straight and blindingly white, and as for those super-smooth underarms.!

A necessary movie convention I'm afraid. Everyone has perfect skin and teeth apart from the occasional cut/bruise.
Somehow I don't think a hairy, snaggle-toothed Helen would have proven very endearing to audiences.

In the film, after Enola and Helen escape from the Atoll, there's a shot of Tripplehorn laying on the deck, shielding her eyes from the sun some unshaven pit-hair is visible.

That's a common trope of post-apocalyptic or pre-industrial fiction. The guys might have an unshaven 5 O'clock shadow because that makes them look rugged and manly, but the women never have armpit & leg hair because western audiences find it to be a turnoff. You have a similar thing with Xena: Warrior Princess; a real woman with hair like Lucy Lawless living in a pre-industrial society (and wearing that little cheerleader outfit that she considers battle armor) would look like a Sasquatch with a uni-brow.

The Walking Dead, Lost, and many other series and movies have the same problem. Perfectly shaved women and white shiny teeth in post-apocalyptic worlds or deserted islands are just ridiculous.
Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

the teeth are not a problem because sugars are mostly the cause of rotten teeth

could not imagine them finding sugar in that world so her teeth would be very white.
the reason we have teeth problems like we do now is because all the sugar we consume
back in the day peoples teeth stayed pretty clean in fact in japan back in the day black teeth was considered beautiful so women would paint their teeth black(the wealthy) because white teeth was considered poor peoples teeth

The Mariner, while searching for useful items on the ocean floor, found a package of Bic razors and a can of Skintimate, and brought them back up for her, along with an unopened box of Summer's Eve.

Just because they can't go to the dentist doesn't mean their teeth will be gross. Plenty of people don't and their teeth are fine. Believe me, many, many people don't brush their teeth. If you think they do you are wrong. Barely anyone has dental insurance either. Check out many people on welfare their teeth look fine. Not all of them but most.
