I agree. However, the Coen fanatics will now destroy you.
They don't need to because they hardly care.
This thread is more of an annoyance than anything.
Just look at the replies thus far. No-ones trying to debate the OP troll. They've been called out as a troll and called out for being the 10 millionth dickwad to make an overrated thread on IMDB.

Was the competition for the 1996 Oscars that poor ?! I've seen the Coen brothers movies and No Country For Old Men just blew my mind. This on the other hand had zero impact. I really dont understand the praise for this movie.

I never understood the hype for this film. Siskel and Ebert loved it - calling it a masterpiece. I think Robert Altman said it was as well. 5 stars from Empire Magazine. I watched it on VHS ago again. Didn't like any of the characters - found the mix of comedy and drama uneasy and uneven. The hokeiness was bad too. Of all the Coen brothers films - it's the one that I don't like the most.

I understood the hype. It was riding the gangster movie wave that was kicked off by Pulp Fiction, so any stylish gangster movie with dark humor (The Usual Suspects, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, etc.) was seen as oh, so brilliant.

Neither movie was anything like Pulp Fiction. I love Tarantino movies too but he didn't invent witty dialogue and quirky humor you sill fangirl. Give it up already.

poor, boring, not funny, unrealistic, underwritten and just plain bad.

Goshdanmit it sums up the waste of time that buttwicked scene of the preg cop watching the darn TV with that absurdly stupid hubby.
I wish Tarantino directed this and everybody died at the end.

No. That would be The Shawshank Redemption.
I don't think this film is overrated at all. I think it's good enough to grant it an 8/10 rating on any site or magazine.

                      Yes.
One of the beep movies ever watched, also including Boyhood.
But hey, there is a lot of dickheads out there. So that's why it is 8.2

Maybe not of all time, but I have to admit I agree it is overrated.
I finally got around to seeing it last week. (Was a kid when it came out, and then the only thing that had kind of kept me away from it was I heard it had some disturbing violence). Thought I would try it because Siskel & Ebert, and many others praised it to high heaven. It was also was one of the only '90s movie in AFI's top 100.
I'm a big fan of the Coen brothers' work, and I like quirky movies and dark comedies.
I love Steve Buscemi and William H. Macy, so to me that makes it automatically better than average. I thought the relationship between Marge & the husband was sweet. I also thought the fate of the money was a cool plot point.
But.I guess I don't get why this movie is so adored and at a "masterpiece" level. If I were rating the top 20 movies of the 90s, this wouldn't even make my cut, but I know it would probably be included on most people's list. Better than the English Patient though haha.
The only thing I can think of is that my expectations were too high from 20 years of hype; OR maybe the film has influenced so many other works (that I saw BEFORE Fargo) that it doesn't seem as innovative as it did for an audience seeing it in 1996.

You've rated all of Nolan's turds either 9 or 10. And you come here talking about overrated movies? Please, realize how utterly stupid this makes you look.

It's a brilliant film. Dark, but hilarious at times. Friendly but violent. The characters are all superbly written and the movie doesn't drag at any time and reaches an excellent climax.
Each to their own, I guess.

No it's a brilliant film. One of the Coen's best and one of the best of that year.
Very funny dark humour and wonderful performances.
For the most overrated movie of all times try Braveheart
Was it a millionaire who said "Imagine no possessions"?

In a word.yes. This is an OK effort for what has become accepted as "good" films. It is, however, not worthy of being considered as something that deserves to be in the "Top" anything (except for the top over-rated films of all time.)
