The struggle for liberal human rights in Spain at the turn of the 19th century, was just as fierce as in had been in Britain, France and the Americas.
When the first Spanish Constitution was drafted (Constitution of Cadiz 1812-1814), it is said was so liberal, that when it was reinstated in 1820 it made the monarchists in New Spain (Mexico), better take their chances with the Insurgents and declare its independence, than to wait and see how these new politics would change their influence and way of life.

Epicureum is a revisionist of history. Spain's historical involvement with Slavery goes way back to the 8th century, when it was run by Muslims. They enslaved white christians for about 700 years. When the pope changed the laws to restrict Christians from being slaves, they ventured to Africa and dealt with black slaves for about four hundred years. America on the other hand was involved with slavery for about 250 years until the abolitionist Christians stood up and finally the Civil War. Did you know that the first slave owner in the US was black? In any case, Spielberg did a great job emotionally and historically within Amistad. Don't be fooled with this blowhard's bravado, he's wrong, and the real truth lies again within America's nobility.

Golly, I didn't realize this was a documentary.
This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

Soooooo, not all movies are pure fact? Does that mean Star Wars didn't take place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away?

I guess that is what you're taught about your own country. The nasty truth is that you would have taught your children that Spain was never severe on their slaves or never tortured them as you put it. That statement is what's laughable here. Maybe you even teach your kids that the inquisition never happened! How funny would that be? Your country never killed anyone that didn't believe in the "one true God". You never even went to South America. Genocide was not even in your dictionary. You didn't eradicate Jews, burn witches, torture and execute gays How about genocide in the majority of central and some of the south Americas? Never happened. You were a people with high morals. How can such people even consider hurting a slave? Luckily, not everybody in the world learn from Spanish textbooks.
As for this being historically inaccurate Maybe in a few minor instances. The fact is that it was a ship owned by a Spaniard, and it was travelling to Cuba to sell the slaves they acquired in Africa That wasn't allowed by law? Oh no! A dishonest slave trader! How can that be? Now, Cuba was a Spanish colony, where slavery was allowed. I don't see nothing here that's against the Spanish law. You should really try and read history my friend. Try and avoid Spanish books. That would be like studying about the USA from a North Korean books.

I think you mean studying the USA from an American history book, which have been proven to not be perfectly accurate either. Many schools in the US teach about the great things Henry Ford did, but forget about that he was a Nazi sympathizer that strongly disliked Jews. There are even schools in the US that teach creationism as science theory, which is just absurd. I don't know much about Spanish history, but I do know that the first post had dates and names that can be checked, while your post is just a bunch of bigoted statements that tell a lot more about your ignorance than anything else.

All history books rewrite history. The history today is rewritten so that blacks see themselves as victims. As long as blacks see themselves as victims and a people that deserves entitlements they will never escape slavery. Those blacks such as Herman Cain, Justice Clarence Thomas and Dr. Ben Carson who have the opportunity to make it and work hard to make it are looked on as Toms.

As a Jew, I'm sure Spelbierg knows a lot about Spain. Considering most of his people left Spain after refusing to convert to Catholicism in 1492. They then went to France and Northern Europe to spread anti-Spanish propaganda known as the "black legend". Which Jews and crypto-Jews used to turn other European powers against Spain. The black legend is still very much in play today.
