Hawthorne seemed to have a bit of an accent.
I don't recall reading that the real MVB had a noticeable Dutch accent.

Yeah, he did, it wasn't obnoxious, but Dutch was his first language.
Spielberg had a chance to redeem himself by making Lincoln's voice pretty accurate.
