It isn't brimming with over-the-top violence and people talking just to hear their own voices. Is that the problem?

No, it's just an uninteresting story. I'd say the violence and killing in this one is used far far more effectively than in his other movies. I don't remember character names, but when Sam Jackson shoots DeNiro, it's a realshot to the viewer. I don't know how to describe it. It's very cold, and blunt, and real.
I made my post before I saw how much hateful threads there on here. Consider me calling this his weakest movie akin to saying it's the least shiny diamond in a pile of them.

The whole thing is basically a big build up to the final half hour which is marvelous. The carefully picked soul and funk soundtrack is superb. Sam Jackson, Pam Grier, Robert Forster and De Niro are all perfect. It's not for everyone, it's very slow, quite uneventful and not very Tarantino-ish.
I didn't use to like it, but it grew on me, it took a couple viewings. It's not his best and even though I do like, it could do with some trimming. It's a good movie, but I'll never get people who claim this is his best film, it nowhere near is. But oh well.

Its no less a Tarantino movie than Pulp fiction, kill bill, reservoir dogs , death proof , django , hateful eight .. Yes abit slower but still has hallmarks of a tarantino movie but based on a novel by Elmore Leonard and linnear

This is his BEST work by a landslide. If the leads were all white and you had Julia Roberts or Meryl Streep in the lead as the street wise Jackie this would have been HUGE. I believe a lot of people on here rate this movie lower simply because the two main characters are minorities. Racism is still alive and well.

Well that certainly is the dumbest thing I've read all day. No, it has nothing to do with the leads being black. It's that I find the movie boring and uninteresting. Go ahead and theorize about it thoughwho am I kidding, you're just trolling and trying to get a race debate started on a totally unrelated topic.

Noted UK film critic Mark Kermode has said that it is Tarantino's best film and everything he has done has been at least disappointing, for proof go to youtube and watch his review of Death Proof.

Actually, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown are the only Tarantino directed films that I've seen. I've never had any interest in seeing any of his other films. Of the three, Jackie Brown is the one that I can constantly revisit and always enjoy. Bridget Fonda might be the best thing in it. I've never been a fan of Tony Scott, but I feel that he did a very decent job of directing True Romance. I've often wondered how different it might have been, had Tarantino directed it.

I think this is his best by far.
I would say Pulp Fiction is a close second, but Ive seen that move so many times I can go 2 lifetimes without seeing it.

I have to strongly disagree with OP. I don't think you can really rate any of QTs movies as weakest or strongest because they're all so genius. Even his weakest movie is better than most of the crap out there.
JB was really great, it was simple and real, everyone gave great performances I can't think of anything bad to say about it.
People really are programmed to want all this crazy action and shooting all the time with absolutely no set up or dialogue and it gets so repetitive.
You always get great context and dialogue and so much quality from every one of QT movies. JB is fantastic, who else could pull of a project like this with Pam Grier and make it a classic.
