@gUrLz RuLe
I completely agree with you. She didn't dress, sit, or behave like a proper lady should at all! Modesty is a must! It is natural for a man to be tempted if the temptation stands before him. She wasn't a child, she was a teenager. She knew exactly what she was doing. She started puberty a year before. She is in the sense a woman and should have guarded herself respectfully. I was fourteen before and fourteen year olds in America (be it whatever era) fully know what sex is. Once you enter puberty you are able to feel the emotional and physical level of sex. Note how in that one scene on the rocking chair she is getting a lot of pleasure from his being beneath her and moving with her. She was a complete wanton. And to do it with her mother's husband, of all people! She even admitted that it would be incest in a way (not by blood, by law/marriage). Dolores knew what she was doing the whole time, she knew what she was getting into. Then when she decided she was bored she moved on with another man for a, "wild adventure" on stage. He didn't fit her expectations, she didn't want to, "blow", anyone to get roles. And then she met her love and got pregnant. She was low on money and decided to write to her, "dad", for some money. Seriously? She ignored him for three years and then the only time she even bothers to make contact is when she wants something. Want, desire, she lets it get the best of her.
And that is not to say that Humbert wasn't to blame also. For goodness sake he married her mother! That's just completely unlawful! After practically murdering her, he still went on with his selfish desires. All right if you are going to prey on a woman who is flirting with you, don't get involved with her mother or anyone near and dear to her. Yes I consider her a woman, she has already had her menstruations. Therefore, she is not a child.

I haven't actually seen this adaptation of Lolita yet, but I absolutely have to comment on the above post:
Yes I consider her a woman, she has already had her menstruations. Therefore, she is not a child.
Ummmm perhaps this might be TMI, but if I started menstruating at 11 years old, did that make me a full woman at 11? HELL NO! My body may have begun to mature, but I was still a
kid
at 11 years old. "Lolita" took place in the 20th century, not the 10th!
She was a complete wanton.
You seriously wrote that on a message board? I didn't even think that word was commonly used anymore, let alone applied to
young girls!
Don't make excuses for HH.
I think I'm just going to leave this board as quickly as I arrived. I've read to many disgusting and disturbing posts in this thread alone.
How's your head, David?

So if you wear a gold watch and I'm tempted by that gold watch, you're at fault for tempting me? Awesome, no personal responsibility on my part!
My neighbor started her period at 9. Line 'em up, boys, she's ready for the rodeo.
You are an idiot. -

in a way, I'm completely with you on the issue, wantxeuphoria. there's a difference between girls that age starting to explore their sexuality and the way she acted and behaved, and she seemed to be completely aware of what she was doing. which still doesn't mean I'm of the opinion that it was all her fault alone, which I'm definitely not.

Unbe-goddamn-lievable. I can't believe you really think like this. This movie is set in the 40's when teenagers as you know them did not exist. Young people dressed like their parents, listened to the same music as their parents and to a much greater extent than today thought like their parents when they became adults. There were no malls, no Saturday morning TV, no boy bands and prepare yourself no internet! To say that you were 14 before therefore you know what she knew and have the inside track on what she was thinking is ridiculous. You do realise that WW2 had just finished right? She's playing a 12 year old girl, and not even a city girl at that. Even taking into account the film's licence for playing her more at 14, we are talking about a child here. A 14 year old child from a bygone era when 14 was still SAFELY in childhood.
