Am I the only one who thinks that at the end , when coffee shop guy comes back and him and Susan are talking, when she says she wishes he could of known her father and he says me too, that it meant he sort of did understand what happened. That death gave him back his life and even though he couldn't remember or understand what just happened , he did know that he died and was brought back. That when he says he won't ever be able to explain it it means he can't explain how he died and came back. Because he seems to know that her father died and accept it.

Hadn't quite thought of that, but I think you're possibly right. But I still think it's ambiguous and could go either way. No matter - an excellent movie and one of my favorites.

That's a good take on the situation. Otherwise upon seeing her he probably would've been more like 'Hey.. coffee shop girl, right? What the hell am I doing here in this monkey suit?'
He seems to be aware that he's had some sort of experience that he can't quit verbalise, and I didn't take it to refer to the amnesiac variety.

I wondered more if SHE knew, by wording it that way and I thought it was a dumb ending, which I had started predicting along the way would happen. They don't know each other and plus death couldn't magically bring him back, it was too much reaching.

So, Death living as a human was believable but bringing back someone he killed was reaching?
