Plot Hole?

At the beginning of the film when Ryan is visiting the graveyard, the movie begins as Ryan is thinking giving the impression that we are seeing his story. Even though he wasn't with the men for the majority of the film.

Here's a clue Sherlock. Just because you assumed something not true, and can't understand does not make something a goof. Much less a goof so bad the whole plot of the film fails.

It's not a plot hole. More of a misdirection, although we are given clues that the old man is an Airborne veteran and therefore cannot be Miller. Still, the ride in the landing craft is presented as if it is the old man's recollection of events, yet it cannot be.
Many were confused by this.

I got the same impression when I first saw this film. It clearly makes one think
"why was old man Ryan baby-sniveling over men he hardly knew and therefore couldn't have had an emotional attachment to?"
It was just so senseless.
That coast guard sailor boy is the resident a*Shole who likes to demean everyone who misses the slightest nuance in these films. He does it on other boards. Stand up to him and he will call you "troll" and then leave the board for a while. -

Just because you are not intelligent or mature enough to ever have an emotional attachment to a person doesn't mean no one else ever makes emotional attachments.
Ryan saw the looks in the men's eyes when they were telling him what they went through to get him, and the looks in their eyes when he wanted to stay. He, unlike you, is intelligent enough to understand the sacrifices they made for him.
Honestly, I don't know why I'm bothering. You are obviously either a troll or just someone who isn't even as intelligent as a pile of dog turds. -

Like I said, child. Just because you are too shallow and immature to understand how Ryan could have developed a bond with the men who risked their lives to come rescue him doesn't mean he didn't.
There are stories all the time of people who become friends after one of them helps the other in an emergency. Some cop helps out a family in need and they end up forming close bonds.
And, that isn't done under the stress and danger of war.
But, I'm sure you are so stupid you'll call it a plot hole, even though you don't actually understand what that is. -
