Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

    ReedBalzac — 9 years ago(December 17, 2016 09:32 AM)

OMG!!! I haven't seen this in a few years, but just came in after the pod race..my god the dialogue is horrible! Stited, unnatural, cliched..delivered with the enthusiasm of a colonoscopywow..
It wasn't as bad as I remember, it's worse.

Wrong! I've just seen it again. I prefer watching this a thousand times than The Force Awakens.
The first deliveries (from the viceroys of the Trade Federation) were somewhat awkward, but then the dialogue got better and better. There were some remarkable, worth remembering lines. Jake Lloyd was ok, he was pretty witty. I don't understand the hatred.
You must be ill intentioned or you are just blinded by hatred for the prequels. Either way, I advise you to think outside the "common herd opinion".
The movie was spectacular. When I saw the Naboo Palace and the gardens I fell in love with epic space operas. And the score when Qui Gon and Obi Wan face Darth Maul in the hangar before Anakin flies away..unprecedented, exquisite
My ratings are not always like the IMDB average score because I only enjoy intelligent movies.

Man, enough of this. So everyone who enjoys the prequels is a troll? NO, BODY, YOU'RE THE TROLL. Or worse. cause you wouldn't recognize a good movie if it bit you in the ..
What was so bad about the dialogue? The one in the Original Trilogy was much, much worse

Force awakens had a story with real characters and depth
Describe the phantom menace characters without referencing
                Their conflict
                Their professions
                Their looks
                Their roles
They are empty as beep as was your mother
Force awakens is in 250 while phantom menace is forgotten trash along with Lucas other beep

Cheesy, horrible, unwieldly dialogue that gives the actors trouble has been a Star Wars tradition, since Leia first told Tarkin she thought she recognized his foul stench!
It wouldn't be a Star Wars movie without it.
Seventy-seven courses and a regicide, never a wedding like it!

Why were the Star Wars Episodes I-III scripts allowed to be consistently terrible?

The problem is exactly in this word : there was NO ONE who could tell Lucas "This sucks: change it".

Maybe because the dialogue and acting is intentionally bad to harken back to cheesy Flash Gordon serials, I swear nerds take Star Wars too damn seriously that they have no idea or forgot what Star Wars was originally based on. When viewing the prequels this way it actually makes them more enjoyable if you can get what Lucas was going for. The prequels are closer to what his original idea was for Star Wars.

I am calling bs on your idea that it was intentionally poor, it makes no sense. What's the point of enjoying that miss the point or having to resort to seeing what is was supposed to be. Most people enjoy that do not require you having to resort to trying to see what the intended film was supposed to be and not what it was.
