most pedophiles are human beings though, they go through life, doing normal things, working jobs, going to the supermarket, living their lives and molesting children.
Pedophiles aren't over the top mustache twirling cartoon villains, they are your neighbors, your teachers, your best friends.
When movies try to portray them as some over the top villain it comes across as insulting to the viewer. I didn't sympathize or feel anything but disgust toward the pedobear, I felt bad for his family because of what he was accused of and the way it was going to follow them around as long as they continued to live where they lived.
Also Hollywood has embraced many long time pedophiles such as Woody Allen and Roman Polanski, as well as countless other pedo's that have well known perversions but are protected by the hollywood elites.. -

I know they are literally human beings and that they aren't mustache twirling cartoon characters, but this movie portrayed him sympathetically as if all he wants to do is find love(as we all do), but with children(as most of us don't). I, like you, was disgusted with the "pedobear" but as you imply, Hollywood is sympathetic to pedos and that's apparent here. They don't have to bathe in feces to be portrayed repulsively. Don't you think this portrayal(and others like it) will soften some anti-pedo attitudes to a small degree? That's my beef!

He doesn't "want to find love", he wants to fulfill extremely disturbing urges that it seems he can't really control. All the other characters in this film are, essentially, just looking for happiness, which he is doing as well.

Personally, I found this movie way more tragic and heartbreaking than funny.

I don't necessarily think that topics like this shouldn't be explored in a film in a deadpan, black comedy kind of way, but knowing how ****ed up Hollywood is, it's definitely an uncomfortable watch. It calls the subject to attention, and I found myself wondering if any of the actors or even the director of the film has either abused children before or were themselves abused as a kid. The pedophilia plot-line was definitely uncomfortable to sit through, but that's probably a good thing. People should be disgusted by these things. It should make them feel uncomfortable. A reason why this film is controversial is because a lot of people think that it never really passes judgement on the pedophile, or it tries to make him "relatable". But I don't think this is true at all. The scenes are intentionally made uncomfortable to watch. It's handled pretty realistically, but the guy never comes across as a character worthy of sympathy. None of the characters in the movie really do.
