It's hilarious how absurd it all is.
My whole life has been a series of unfinished books

I think you're meant to believe the father doesn't find the son attractive enough to molest? I could be reaching but I feel like that fits the context of that conversation.

I think he was definitely interested in his son sexually but he knew that would be a line too emotionally dangerous to cross. Though he kept teasing it, asking whether he should show him how to masturbate or measure his penis. Anytime the son declined he respected his wishes. I don't think he'd jack off to his son if he wasn't attracted to him.

yes I'm pretty sure the movie made it clear that the father was a total and utter pedo bear, but I think even with as deranged as sick as he was, him saying he would jerk off instead of rape his son was meant to be him putting some line in the sand about just how far of a pervert he actually is.
Like the alcoholic who says I only had 10 drinks before I drove. as if them cutting themselves off before going the whole way somehow makes what they did morally not as bad.
The son crying afterward was confusing, i'm not sure if the crying was him feeling rejected by his father, or him coming to terms with the fact the accusations against his dad were true.. Probably a little of both..

I think it was entirely the latter. I don't think the son would have been at all relieved or whatever to know his father wanted to beep him. That would have only compounded his anguish and probably severed their relationship permanently.

Hands down the grossest part of the movie for me, and this movie had no shortage of gross parts.

I seriously doubt it. It's not like Billy was crying at the end because he wished his dad would have done to him what he did with those boys. He was crying because he knew how horrible that was what his father did. His father was being honest with him since he always has been. It showed he had a problem and how sick he was.

No, just painfully and shamefully honest. Ironic, perhaps.
On another note, would you tell who is in your avatar?

Marla Singer from fight club is in my avatar. Coming back to this thread is strange, I found the line funny when I was younger but rewatching the film I didn't find it funny and felt a bit guilty and disgusted at myself for previously finding it funnier when I was younger.

It was supposed to be over the top line, like the entire movie. I don't really think it was supposed to be Haha Funny type of line but more like a wow, that was some crazy thing I just heard.

Its been responded already but I think it was that his father actually loved his son very much and while he was attracted to him he would do him the "favour" of not molesting him.
