And there's now talks of a new Shaft being possible in the runnings for a new movie from Newline. Should we start talking who could play Shaft? I think either Matt Damon or Ben Affleck. Or maybe someone younger like Channing Tatum or Joseph Gordan-Levitt. Or maybe with a little different spin and go with Miley Cyrus. Thoughts?

Idris Elba as Shaft, with a decent script? Hell yes I'd watch it.
But this remake was lame. As much as I admire Samuel Jackson, didn't feel he had the right charisma for the part. Idris Elba would dazzle!! -

While Bond is a white guy in the source material, that isn't what defines his character. His defining qualities are intelligence, sexiness and charisma. Pretty much any race or ethnicity could play a part like that if the actor can bring those qualities to screen.
On the flip side you can't have a black person playing a Nazi, or a white man playing Martin Luther King Jr. In those situations race does matter. Another example would be Tyrion from Game of Thrones. His defining characteristic is he is a dwarf, so a regular sized person couldn't play that role. However, I would argue that if the character of Tyrion wasn't a dwarf in the source material, but his physical appearance had very little to do with his character as a whole, then there is no real reason why a dwarf actor couldn't play that role.
