The Ramayana is an ancient Hindu epic. When he said evil monkey I thought of the god Hanuman. Hanuman is a monkey god, not evil, but I thought he may have been referring to him.

No. That wasn't it. I remember that it was in English as well and not about the Hindu Gods. It was about anthropomorphic animals like in Robinhood.

The monkey god Hanuman is what made me think of the Ramayana. It was a stretch. But this is a great thread!

Haha, nah.
I've been searching for this old kid's movie for a week now. I actually searched through the entire Wikipedia list of animated films released in the US… twice. I went decade by decade and found nothing resembling this movie. Now, Wikipedia is incomplete or maybe I glanced over it without noticing.

Nah. It was traditional animation.
It was such a cool movie (if I remember correctly) and it may have featured a sort of three way war between the good guy, an antagonist (whom he eventually teams up with), and a monkey led super bad guys clique.
