I know. This is not a remake of the comic. But if you read it, you can not forget it. And this movie just makes me angry every time I see it.
I love Ron Pearlman, when he has a roll made for him. But Hellboy is not made for him. And him making the roll for him does not work. Hellboy would never take a kids milk and cookies and not thank him. And this movie is so well made. But it does not work. I try and try to watch it and enjoy. Hellboy 2 comes closer, and does not make me as angry. Still, this movie is beep
I think Snow White says it best here -

Thanks for replying to a two year old drunken post. But the gif link didn't work.
I should probably try watching Hellboy again since it's been some time and i really want to like it. I own then both on blue ray. The second i enjoy much more.

I've never read the comics, but I thought it was really enjoyable. I suppose I had nothing to compare it to.

I have read some of the comics, also some novels. Looks like in comics there were short stories taking this character on different adventures.
Film had its own storyline. It wasn't to match the comics exactly.
Only thing disturbed me big time. In film, Hellboy loves cats. In one of a comics, he kills a cat by stomping on it.

What? No way. He really kills a cat?
The comics are short stories all adding to the larger story about hellboys origin and birthright, and what he decides to do with that knowledge.
I didn't want the movie to match the comics. I mostly just don't like the interpretation of the character in the movie. Ugh.

Yeah he does, in Weird Tales. (That one isn't Mignola's Hellboy, but a collection of different authors interpretations). Also there are novels by different authors. The books are rather bizarre and dark, more grown-up, as films are clearly aimed at younger audiences.

You gave Incredible Hulk a 9 out 10. As far as I'm concerned, that movie had less than zero to do with the comics on which it was based on. Hulk in that movie is a murderer, which Hulk is not in the classic universe.
Also, do you like MCU's version of Tony Stark? I'm pretty sure you do. If you don't know, MCU's Tony Stark is nothing like the classic Tony Stark, who was a do-gooder with a heart gold that was never looking at everyone from above.
What I'm trying to say is: yes, this movie isn't faithful to the source material on hundred percent. But so is every other comic book movie that have ever come out.

Sounds like you agree with me than. Considering I never read marvel comics, and I enjoy the Hulk movie and MCU movies. I actually enjoy the X-men movies having never read marvel.
I am getting into a few marvel titles, like Uncanny X-men.
I would also rate most Xmen moves around 4 or 5 out of ten but enjoyable.
If I had not read hellboy, I might of enjoyed the movies. Maybe I just don't like Ron Perlman? I did not like him in Pacific Rim or the Alien movie he was in. I also don't think movies have to be faithful to their source material.
Sin City was pretty faithful to it's source material I think. And 300 maybe?

Haven't gotten to Hellboy yet (reading them) but I did read the first omnibus of BPRD and then watch this, and was disappointed Hellboy seems so different, let alone the rest of the world.

There are lots of sites that show reading order for the whole Hellboy comic book universe.
Might check that out cause a lot of the comics come before BPRD, I think. I have not read much of BPRD, but I have all the Hellboys.
I don't mind the movie wondering so much away from the Hellboy feel, but Hellboy himself in the movie really grinds me and Hellboy in the comic is likeable,it was really hard for me to watch.
Hellboy in Hell gets pretty different from Seed of Destruction where I started reading hellboy. Really quite the ride.
