Definitely not that bad.

It is certainly not the worst. Not even a 2.4 bad. It is cheesy, and it is over the top, and it is completely rushed.
It is alright, and the essential idea of the film is actually pretty good. If one can get past the 90s star trek filming style, and the cheesy pep speeches (mixed with even cheesier action points), it really isn't that bad at all.
A scene I thought was actually very well done, was the psyclo reveal. When Johnny and his new found friends are eating in the shopping mall, and the aliens make an attack. I thought it was pretty interesting how the color and cuts worked together.
Confound your lousy toll.. TROLL! -

Have you seen every movie ever made?
Anyone who thinks this movie is the "worst movie of all time" hasn't seen enough movies.
Battlefield Earth is only considered "worst" because it's a rare case of a B-movie that cost a lot to make, got a lot of hype, and as a result was eventually seen by a lot of people. It also copped a lot of negative publicity over the Scientology aspect.
If the same number of "film experts" had actually seen every bad movie ever made, a good deal of them would realize that the mere fact it has a identifiable plot, fair acting and reasonable effects, places it above many thousands of direct-to-video releases.
The actual rating for Battlefield Earth should be somewhere in the range of 5 or 6, out of 10.
But thanks to the hive-mentality of idiots using this website, most of whom have seen approximately 100-200 movies in their entire lives, of which they consider this "the worst", it's currently 2.4/10.
All because it's easier to vote "1" and dribble "worst movie evah!", than to stop and think "There are 2.5 million movies on IMDB right now, how do I know this is the worst movie?" -

LOL, do you think you're going to live forever? Life is too short to spend it watching crappy movies. Go play outside and don't come back in until it's dinner time! -

I have watched well over 2000 movies and have a collection at present of over 1000 films. This is not the worst movie I have ever seen however I rated it a 3 as this is what I feel it deserves and the IMDB rating of 2.4 is pretty much right on the money +/-1 point. It most certainly does not deserve a 5 or 6 rating as a 5 or 6 rating implies that the movie is average or slightly above average which this movie is not, it is below or slightly below average at best. -

You, sir, deserve some applause. I couldn't have said it better myself. In fact, your post is one of the better ones I've ever read in the wasteland that is the IMDB comment boards. Well done. You're absolutely right, it probably fits into the 5-6 range for rating. It's not worse than many of the other films on this site rated in that area.
There is no rational explanation for voting this lower than 4. None. I can't picture how bad a movie really has to be to deserve a 2.4 rating, but this is certainly not that film. -

It's the worst big budget movie ever made IMO. A movie that had a huge budget, and was released in theaters. I'm sure there are some worst student films out there. They did not have a multimillion dollar budget, Hollywood actors, and were released worldwide in move theaters. So yes, this is the worst movie of all time IMO.

I've seen far worse. Hell, I'd go even as far to say that this movie is mildly entertaining. I've seen it a few times.
I agree. Everything I had ever read about the movie makes you think this movie is one of the worst Sci-Fi movies ever made, and not worth watching after the first 5 minutes. I was entertained by it, and never during the movie did I feel it wasn't worth watching or became just another forumula movie. I have seen many movies that are far far far worse. -

I'm with you AnimeMog.
I've seen far far worse movies (BTK Killer springs to mind), and Battlefield Earth is the type of movie that if it happens to be on TV and nothing else is on, it's a good time filler. Sure it's got flaws, some large flaws, but it's still entertaining.
Oh and I love the thing they do with the language to use English but not. That was kind of smart.
