    chewing gum in the market-scene, where he stabs Pazzi's hired thief, who gets Hannibal's fingerprints on the silver bracelet? With an open mouth even. It looks much too crude for Hannibal

        You could argue that he was trying not to stick out but I never liked the way he was portrayed in Hannibal; he seemed too sane and completely unlike him in Silence.

            I believe Ridley Scott mentioned it was so that his face wasn't showing any discernible emotion, so that the pickpocket couldn't tell that Hannibal knew he was following him.
