Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Sweet November

    entropictundra — 16 years ago(February 02, 2010 12:21 PM)

I don't understand what the role of the two trannys had to do with anything. Or the little boy. They had nothing to do with the plot, and seemed to be thrown in there to drag it out, or something. I could see maybe the dude who was her good friend, but another thing; what was the point of having him work in the same business as Keanu? Again, just thrown in there for no reason. It seemed like that would go somewhere and take the plot in another direction, but it didn't. The boat race with the little boy, and him bringing Keanu to show and tell? I guess it was supposed to show that Keanu was a cold man and that he was warming up to the child? I like how everyone who's posted that didn't like the film has automatically been accused of being "soulless" or "cold" or better yet; "STUPID" (seriously? because my opinion differs from yours?)
I've been touched and moved by many a film, but not this one. It starts out like some ridiculous romantic comedy, and ends in a sad but unrealistic way. None of it was realistic to me. If it had been written differently, perhaps more realistic dialogue and had it seemed more true to life; perhaps I would've enjoyed it more. I think if they were really in love, she would have wanted him there. I can understand when one is dying, that it is humiliating in a sense. That you may not want some people around. But someone you truly love? You'd want them by your side. I know I can't speak for everyone, but I think this would stand true for about 95% of the population, if not more. She'd rather be with her family that didn't accept her? Or was it supposed to have been a suicide? Because if it were a suicide, I can't imagine he would've walked awaywouldn't he have heard something? Or was that just supposed to be symbolic?
It dragged on for too long and there were too many loose ends I felt. I'm actually somewhat interested in seeing the original to compare the two, but I dread that it will be as disappointing as this was. And is it not much different than Love Story or A Walk to Remember, except she leaves him in the end? It's really a very simple, and not very original plot excluding the ending. But I must also raise a separate point that everyone who's posted calling her a "slut" come on. Can the woman be blamed for wanting to live a little before she died? It's just such a shallow observation!
Whether you liked it or not, I'd be interested in reading your thoughts. ..as long as I'm not accused of having a lower IQ than you, or being insensitive 😉

Hahaha. I'm glad you beep and didn't start a lame argument with me about how dumb I am and how great it is. Also, yer quote is amazing and wtf film were they talking about? 17 Again? Lol.
Did you like Sweet November? I guess it just comes down to taste and I didn't feel like it had much depth; I think it takes more than giving a character cancer and making them die to give a film depth. I'm more into stuff you have to figure out and think about and watch a few times to get, as far as serious films go. I'm not really into stuff that does your thinking for you; I'm very much into layers.
Don't mind my rambling though, heh

It really did make me laugh lol. I loved how straight to the point it was. 'i thought this film was crapthe end' hahaha!
Yeah it was on the 17 again board ages ago..some nutter who truly belived that zac efron was apparently so moving in the movie that he deserved a bloody oscar haha
Meh..ive seen sweet november a few times (its on tv a lot randomly in the middle of the night all the time) and its just 'ok'. The thing is there are a million of these 'coming of age..romance' movies these days so youve got to make a movie really special for it to stand out and this just doesnt. It just blends in with all the other..as you said crap..they make. Its just a very typical story, there is nothing special about it.

Yeah, exactly. You probably said it better than I did. In the end that was the problem, it just bored me. But I like to try to finish things I start and give 'em a fair chance, and I think it was just not boring enough that I was curious to see how it ended. I hate that. Cause then it ends and you feel disappointed and annoyed you just wasted 2 hours on a crappy film lol.
That's awesome someone thought that about Zac. I was actually impressed with him in that.. he's a better actor than I thought and maybe has potential for a long acting career (in that type of straight up entertaining stuff). However I would not go THAT far!

This is often a way the film makers show that a character is "cool."
"Hey, I've got gay friends so I'm not judgmental at all!"
It's a shortcut for showing a character is a good person.
And while that may have been the point of having them there, they were my favorite characters in this whole silly movie.

Thank you for so eloquently explaining exactly how I feel about this remake of Sweet November.
I actually felt as if I was the one who was mortally ill. Which makes sense considering I gave up around two hours of my life that I will never get back.
The time you took to describe such vapidness in detail was really appreciated since I already wasted way too much of my own on it.

Doesn't the fact that you posted in this discussion to begin with show that you were prepared to lose a few seconds of your time reading somebody's opinion (seeing as how yoour opinion is obviously very important to you)? Like they had to read yours?
Either you wanted to be contradicted or you wanted to be backed up, either way you should accept that everyone has a right to an opinion and nobody likes a jerk.
