I watched it last week, and agree there is good stuff in there. But Archer's turn to the dark side kills this character more than it would any other Trek captain, and that is painful to watch.

Archer going dark? he promised Trip he'd "do what was necessary" then at every turn choose utter and totally unfounded acceptance and forgiveness
Episode 7: The shipment He meets a guy that provided the material needed for the attack on Earth, but accepts the explanation of "Oh yeah I gave the massive amount of weapons grade uranium to the very angry people, but I never thought they'd make a nuke"
Yup Very dark.. He was more dark in the Season 2 episode Cogenitor

Wise moveI've suffered/fast forwarded through the Xindi slop and am now unhappily at s3e09. Can't stand it. Series clearly jumped the shark with season three. Sad.

9/11 changed the world in ways which we are only, just now, beginning to see unfold in world politics today. Star Treks bright? Utopian future is ridiculously outlandish for many typical people these days. Mamy people are stressed, depressed, wars are raging in certain places. Its sad. Hopefully mankind we pull through to a much brighter future. Optimism is our greatest and best asset.

Correction the 9/11 changed U.S not the rest of the world. I love when Americans talk like there world is only U.S. I give you a hint the world is bigger.

9/11 changed the world due to the horribleness of the attack
Don't get me wrong I'd be one of the first to attack the Bush administration it sucked unbelievably bad (Possibly to be surpassed soon)
However.. though they did choose the wrong responseResponding to the attack was justified.

Sorry but I live in UK so. maybe it was me?
Its just my opinion of course. But considering what has happened since Sept. 11th 2001, I would say that the WORLD was changed in the years that followed.

I also finally got to watching Enterprise through Netflix and I completely agree with you. I am only a few episodes into season 3 and already I really dislike the 9/11 "feel" to the season. And like you said in the other post, watching Archer change is painful. I found it annoying because first two seasons.
I agree with you though, I wish they hadn't canceled it. It's probably unlikely, but I'd love them to do a reunion movie or something for Netflix.

If anything though, I think people want to escape depressing reality's when they watch shows like this, especially at the time. I remember seeing what was going on on the News and the last thing I wanted was it to bleed over into the shows I watched. I'm relatively new to star trek, but I've been watching through them all over the past couple of years, and my take from it is that the original intention for the shows, was a hopeful one but season 3 of enterprise just goes in the total opposite direction. Its just a very bitter and angry starfleet going out to hunt down the aliens that attacked Earth.

I just started Season 3 and I think you're spot on. The first two seasons I really enjoyed with their discovering new things, like planets and species. It was lighter and more enjoyable to watch and quite funny in parts. Like the aliens they somehow kept offending and didn't know why or when the crew became fixated on one stupid thing above even their duties!
Just started Season 3 and the first two episodes were okay but Archer was definitely darker and I found I didn't like the way he kept snapping at the crew. And the episode where Archer and Hoshi were turned into aliens just hurts to watch. I'm not sure I can make it through this season. I think this season is what killed the show.

Just stick with it: I think the Xindi arc is the best season in all of Star Trek

Re: the reference to the attacks of 9/11/2001, what did you expect? The show began in the shadow of 9/11, why not use it as the basis for a story arc? There's a certain truism for the ST franchise: when ratings sag, start an intergalactic war to bring the viewers back. Archer's embrace of his "dark side" doesn't harm his character, it fleshes the character out, from an adult Eagle Scout to a warrior who will do "whatever he has to" to prevent the annihilation of the human race. If that means decompressing an Oosarian pirate or ripping off the warp core of another ship whose only crime was that they were easy pickings, so be it. It made Archer more relatable than he was in seasons 1 and 2.
