I really didn't like the idea of those two together. I really couldn't see why he would want to be with a girl who was such a trainwreck when he had everything going for him. I know they had that abandonment by parent thing in common, but still . . . Of course, I know this is a movie, but it still bothered me.

I first saw this movie when I was 13 and I loved it then. I 'm 19 now and I still love it. While it is a cliche "poor guy working hard to make a better life meets a self destructive rich girl" movie, it was real. The language wasn't contrived to mimic "teenage speech". Nor were there quips, sarcasm, and humorous puns for the sake of throwing them in there. The acting, especially on Kirsten Dunst's part, was phenomenal. The fact that she went from this to Spiderman where she played "the perfect, pretty cheerleader that was loved by all" is worth noting. And I think everyone has found themselves in similar instances. Who doesn't have a friend/friends that are a) goal oriented and following a set plan to or b) trying to find themselves and end up destroying themselves and their relationships in the process. None of the characters were unwavering moral compasses or drug addled partiers(sp?). There is character development and growth in all of them without the magical leap that other shows/movies sometimes have. Crazy/Beautiful possessed the simple ease of telling a story without become pretentious or dumbed down, overwhelmingly "real" or fantastical.

i dont know. its like there are some movies everyone loves but maybe one person will hate for such a reason that they cant poinbt their finger on. like i do not like thirteen, honey, or blue crush. maybe its cuz the actors just annoy the heck out of me. maybe u secretly dont like one of the actors?? or the plot for some reason?? crazy/beautiful was beautifully filmed and just a guilty pleasure 4 me.

I loooooved this movie when I was a teen and I still love it now (am 21 going on 22). It's the story, the way it was filmed and of course the actors that makes it so fantastic. It's not a typical teen movie with stupid cheerleaders and the popular kids boring lifes, it's about the troubled girl who is actually interesting!
                  That's why I love it..

You are asking a valid question.
I'm a girl and saw the film first when I was 27 and during the past years it sometimes crossed my mind that I would like to see it again. I am 33 now, and I taped it when it was on TV late the other night. And I'm soooo glad that it was on so late that I taped it!
The film touched me even more than the last time. Although it has its share of cliches (poor latino guy meets rich white girl, happy ending, and so on) and the ending left me somewhat unsatisfied (How did Carlos get to Annapolis when his grades were getting beep and he walked out of the midterm? Did Nicole go to any therapy place?)
One obvious reason is georgeous Jay Hernandez, and I also like Kirsten Dunst (she is more mature and even better now), and I find the love scenes very beautifully shot. The first scene that brought tears into my eyes was when the song 'This Year's Love' by David Gray was on. I love the song, and the shots of Carlos and Nicole in different places together were just right with it.
I definitely ended up crying when Nicole broke down. I've had pretty serious psychological problems myself, and the scenes were very real and I could relate to them. I also know how important it is that somebody will stand by you, no matter how lowly you are thinking of yourself.
The direction and scenography are good, and some cliches are explored a bit more than in your average teen movie (the bad stepmother might not be just bad. I watched my favourite scenes twice and kept thinking about the movie for about a day.
But I must admit that when that impression is wearing off and I calm down, at the end of the day it's still a teen-film.
Still better than average and worth watching though!!!

I agree with Whipper, but I aslo liked the movie because it was easy to watch. Not boring.
                        I gave it an 6.

Main reason I liked the movie was Dunst. Her acting made the character believable and on a core emotional level likeable. Her character the only one fleshed out.
Many problems with the script. Some mentioned above. Not enough transition scenes to demonstrate Hernandez' corruption nor his growing love for Nicole. Part of the problem was Hernandez acting. He didn't hold a candle to Dunst.

i think i was about 19 when i first saw the movie (only seen it on TV) and i still love it at 24.
It could be that Jay hernandez is so hot in it. it could also be that, although nicole is atrain wreck, i can sympathise with her. telling someone you love them, and knowing that the person doesnt want to hear it, can really mess with your head.
why is he with her when he has everything going for him, and she's got greasy hair, no bra (a "perk" to the movie, but very distracting!) and is trouble? Well opposites attract. simple as. and i guess the idea that youcant choose who you love.
Genuine answer, i dont know why i love this movie so much, it just really makes me smile. Its not got too much going on. No huge epic plot line, nothing too dramatic and film like. its brilliant in its subtleties.
like, when the actors continually talk over each other. u dont see that in film often, but you do in day to day conversation. it also means the more times you watch it, you pick up different bits you didnt hear before.
I wouldnt expect everyone to love it, especially if your not into chick flicks. it just has something indescribable (although clearly, i've tried!) that means it strikes a chord with some people and not others.

I liked the story. I liked how Nicole never tried to impress anyone and how Carlos was so great to her. Even though Carlos was too good for her. I have to mention Jay is GORGEOUS! Nicole stopped caring when her mother died and she just lost her way. When she found Carlos she was happy again. He loved her for who she was and never saw her any other way. It's not your typical teen movie.it's a good story and real. Yes, there where some plot holes but what movie doesn't have those.

I saw this on television as a teenager, and I really should watch it again. my first impression was that it was okay, good enough to watch the end of. But I love the soundtrack, which I bought and am listening to at this very moment. I remember the movie, but only certain parts, and I wonder how I'd feel about it now.

I loved this movie! When it started I thought, Yuck, but then I got into it. You should watch it again!!! Both actors are wonderful. Nicole is trying to deal with her problems of never being good enough for her dad and stepmom. Carlos is just trying to get good grades. Every scene captured my attention because they acting is so true. I just fell in love with the characters and felt like I was going through things with them. By the way I'm sixteen and this movie would've made me say "blah" a couple years ago.
Now why don't you like it?

I saw this movie when I was 11. Thought it was just okay. In my teen years, it came on television so many times. I'd watch it & each time I'd fall more in love with it. Over time I'd relate to the characters in some weird way at different points of my life & eventually I went out & bought my own copy.

I saw it when it first came out and I loved the cinematography and I also appreciated the work Kirsten did on this film- it was different from the other work she had done previous to this. I don't know, I like stories about train wreck types and those who try to save the train wreck types.
