Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Trigun

Just saw that they put Trigun on Netflix, decided to check out some of the episodes I hadn't seen in years. Now I remember why I don't like the 2-parter with BDN, it lessens Vash as a character because of how poorly the episode concludes.
First part, BDN kills a conductor who only wants to help the people. Then BDN has a plan to drive the steamer with the people still on board into a crater, all to crack open the safe.
BDN and Vash get into a shootout in which for some reason Vash (someone who defeated the Gung-Ho Guns, managing not to kill all but one of them) ends up lying on the ground from previous wounds. BDN suddenly becomes the "criminal with an honor code" cliche and Vash smiles, oh that jerk finally came around? Well everybody is safe, let's move along
Whoa whoa whoa. What just happened? The guy who murdered someone in cold blood (and likely has and will do that again) gets to go free? No shooting his legs out, let the cops deal with him, nothing Vash? I understand his no killing rule but the ending to that episode really pisses me off. It's the only time where I don't get his dumb goofy smile.
Which brings me to my second reason for disliking these episodes, Vash doesn't do much. Yeah ultimately he is the one that saves the kid (whom BDN was about to murder after beating him and knocking his tooth out) but everything after that it's like the guy was a shell of himself the whole episode. I get that it's before "Diablo" and they didn't want to give away how much a badass he is but..oh well, end rant.
Anybody else not like how those two concluded, or just didn't like them at all? The only other episode I dislike this much is Little Arcadia because of how out-of-place it feels as a filler.

I'd love to see you in the moonlight with your head thrown back and your body on fire.

I haven't watched it in a while, but the actor who voiced BDN is the same guy who voiced Jet Black in Cowboy Bebop. I kept seeing Jet's face whenever this guy opened his mouth, lol.
That's the Japanese actor, no clue who did the dub.
But yeah, they did have to hide a lot and I wasn't that wild about him and what was left of his crew getting away, but I did like that the guy did keep his word.
