Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Trigun

I wonder if the woman and the annoying little boy (who said that he wanted a gun) was like an early concept of Annie and Spike from Cowboy Bebop. However, I doubt it since there's no note about them being early conceptual characters. But the woman looked and kinda sounded like Annie as well, but she could have been caring (or at least babysitting) for another guy (definitely not Mao.)
    I'm just asking though.

Personally I don't think so Since Trigun, and Bebop came out the same year, and were made by different studios.

I agree, and you're right, but I get what sonic is saying.
There are SO MANY Cowboy Bebop parallels in Trigun (especially in the second half) that one COULD wonder about that. I hadn't thought of that myself, but now that you mention it, sonic

Going back through my memoryThe only thing that I think Trigun shares with Cowboy Bebop is the space travel they mention towards the end of the series. Although both series were modeled after westerns. Trigun was more like a western than Bebop was.

Well, just a couple of the parallels I found that I can mention right off the top of my head:
Vash and Spike were still in love with/pining for a woman from their past.
Woolfwood's suit, rumpled cigarettes and his shady past that he was hiding.
Vash had an enemy that was after him, an enemy that was if not his brother was like a brother. He had to face that evenly matched enemy in an epic showdown at the end.
Spike and Wolfwood, very willing to shoot first and ask questions later, yet Spike also has the protective instinct that Vash has (willing to sacrifice themselves to protect others).
Spike tends to destroy a LOT of property when capturing bounties. Vash tends to have a lot of property destroyed around him wherever he goes.
It COULD be coincidence, and I COULD be reading more into it than is there, but I was struck by how much of Trigun reminded me of Cowboy Bebop. I know Trigun came out first, but Cowboy Bebop would have been already in production when it aired (both released in 1998, Trigun must have started in the first half of the year, finishing up in the second half. Cowboy Bebop in the second half of 1998, finishing up the next year.
I'm not suggesting anyone at Sunrise watched Trigun and liking what they see used any part of Trigun as an influence, but. Apparently there are people at Sunrise and Madhouse who seem to think alike.
Or.. I just have Bebop on the brain. LOL

Well there is nothing wrong with having Bebop on the brain 😛
Well there are similarities when you look at them, but I think similarities can be drawn between many different anime series. To me Trinity Blood, and Trigun are more similar than Bebop, and Trigun.
Like you said thoughYou never know what Sunrise was thinking back in 1998 when they were making Bebop. I think there is a certain arch type character that the model after in every series.

That is entirely likely. That would explain quite a bit, wouldn't it? 😄
