Ok i haven't watched part 4 yet. But after watching part 1,2 and 3 i think it can be said that more then one djinn is out there in fire opals.
Part one we have The Djinn / Nathaniel Demerest who was cast into the fire opal by the sorcerer who for some reason knew that that can contain the djinn, which makes me believe that there was more djinn's before Nathaniel who was also imprison in fire opals all around the world. I mean why the fire opal and not a 2x4 let alone a lamp that can imprison him? Because the sorcerer knew from experience or historical documents. The Djinn / Nathaniel Demerest 1# task is to open the gates and make sure he get the job done so "HIS KIND" can roam the earth freely. Well he failed and looks as tho it will take 100s more year for someone to stumble into the fire opal again.
Part 2. Seem as tho The Djinn / Nathaniel Demerest wont have to wait long after all. Morgana found the opal and rubbed it. Easy 3 wishes to grant? Nope. After the last encounter Nathaniel couldn't grant the waker any wishes cause the power source was drained and only way to gain more power was to take the souls of others before he could grant Morgana any wishes. He failed once again to open the gates and was cast back into the opal the way the sorcerer did.
so where is The Djinn / Nathaniel Demerest ? hes still out there trapped in the opal but where? in a safe in someones closet in the ocean? only Morgana knows.
So we now come to part 3. This is a totally different Djinn who was last captured some where in the Greek mythology. The opal it self was imprison into a box with inscriptions that probably were warnings not to open it or disturb the djinn. But our young student and her professor doesn't understand inscription and opens the box. Diana Collins gets the help from THE ARCHANGEL MICHAEL who off the bat new who he was dealing with thus implying that the djinn race goes back along long time ago.
after viewing the special features i saw a quick glimpse of 3 other unknown djinns. again i haven't seen part 4. so i don't know if they appear in that movie but here are some screen caps of those creepy djinns

They're in part 4. The communicate with the Djinn from the Opal.
It's the same Djinn, he just changes disguises mainly because actor Andre Divoff didn't return after 2 so the Nathaniel Demerest look had to change. The Djinn stole Nathaniel's face off a corpse in the original.
It's been a while since I watched 3 but he gets a new face. Same demon, different human form now as a university professor as I recall. Samething happens in 4 but as a lawyer.

I do agree with the TC that there are more than one Djinn. However, the Djinn from the first and second movies actually was captured in Persia nearly a thousand years before modern times, meaning that he certainly existed after Greek Mythology. Also, as for the second Djinn, he certainly existed in Roman times as well (he called Dionysus by his Roman name Bacchus when addressing the Greek/Roman Gods), but I do believe that the box his fire opal was in was dug up in Persia.
