Kevin Costner was perfect in this. My wife and mom hate most of his movies, as they believe he is too stoic. In this, his character starts off the movie in an understandable depression, which he is hiding by focusing on his work.
His flat delivery and understated performance worked well here. I think KC gets beat up a lot because he doesn't emote much, but his characters seem to all follow a similar arc. He seemed natural in this movie, as well as Swing Vote, Bodyguard, Guardian, and Dances With Wolves. I think his critics are a bit harsh. At least he doesn't
    over
sell his performances, ie Jim Carrey, William Shatner, Christian Bale.

OMG! I cannot BELEIVE you put Christian Bale and even Jim Carrey in the same boat as William Shatner. That is
I guess time will tell if the Dark Knight or Eternal Sunshine will give way to Priceline.com commercials.

I don't usually like to watch Costner because I know a little about his real life and he's got a rep for being kind of a jacka$$. However, I thought he was just fine here. He quietly comes apart at the seams. I would have loved to see what Harrison Ford would have done with this, though!!!!
Let's just say that God doesn't believe in me.
