Jusr read some of your posts after you mailed me. Agree.
Are you in Australia? Is Serpent Films a film production company?
No fan of THE WELL or LOVE SERENADE, but agree that MAD MAX, DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND, PICNIC and THE BOYS are extremely accomplished.
There is also an underground (?) filmmaker in Sydney (?) named Mark Savage who recently made a pretty incredible horror film, DEFENCELESS, which I reviewed.
Also worth mentioning is BLUE MURDER, the scathing true crime series directed by Michael Jenkins. Also beautifully written. Also reviewed.
Other Aussie flicks I like: SHAME, TIM, RAZERBACK, LAST OF THE KNUCKLEMEN, NO WORRIES, THE LAST WAVE.
What is JOHN SAFFRAN VERSUS GOD. Sounds interesting.

YeahLove Serenade and The Well are the 2 non Naturalism films on my list. Which is why I think they're great because they take risks. They're also very feminine films which suggests that fc..are you a male?
Youd love JOhn Saffran..tv series..He is great! -

I am a male.
I have now seen THE WELL on your say-so and LOVE SERENADE. I liked them both very much.
I have also seen WALK THE TALK by the SERENDADE director, but I did not like it.
I must review these two movies soon. I am about 2000 movies behind.
I will try to locate this John Saffran fellow. -

I am an Australian and this is what I think
The Australian film industry is in decline, we know that. And why is this so? It will continute to whither and die unless these yuppie, upstart, try hard young film makers relise that aussie "ockerisms" dont cut it anymore. Hello?? The 80's finished like 17 years ago.No one cares about Crocodile Dundee anymore. How Someone got finance to make "You and your stupid mate" is beyond me. -

While I agree that the Australia film industry is terrible (is it any wonder why our brilliant Aussie actors pack up and go overseas!) we have made some fabulous films that deserved more recognition than they received.
But I disagree with your opinion on LantanaI found it to be an excellent film, so complex and moving. It really surprised me, as it's not usually the type of movie I enjoy, but I ended up absolutely loving it. Brilliant.
It's a Geoffrey Rush thing, you wouldn't understand! -

John Safran is a TV provocateur and enfant terrible who is equal parts irritating and brilliant, and who, while often going beyond the limits of good taste, good sense and good television, occasionally delivers the goods in spades he also touches on topics no one else dares to on Aussie TV.
But you ARE Blanche and I AM.
