Why are you getting so angry about this? The only person acting childish here is you. If your motive for making the thread was just to get opinions, you sure made the title sound like other people can't possibly have a different opinion than you.

Why are you still replying? Never mind, added to my ignore list. Have fun writing replies that I won't be reading.

The backdrop added an air of creepiness missing in most movies. In many ways the location was the biggest star.
'Originality' is not criteria for something being 'good' either. Most 'original' things in movies are awful, which is why no one did them before you. Occasionally someone comes out with something vaguely new, but it's only because the idea is good in and of itself, not that it was 'original' which is what made it good.
And if in your entire life it never occurred to you that everyone's minds are different, and as such some people adore things you never could, then you've been very sheltered.
So the answer to your question is, "Not everyone thinks like you. Not everyone likes the same things you do. Not everyone hates the same things you do. It has never been this way for anyone and never will."

I started this thread like over a year ago? At the time I didn't understand why people dubbed this as a "masterpiece" etc. But that was the point of starting the thread. So that the said people could enlighten me on why they regard this movie very highly. I was asking for opinions, not finalizing my opinion on people.
The thread was not meant to bash this movie or to say something along the lines of "this movie sucks, you people are dumb for liking it!". I'm not an angst teenager, I don't do that.
But the thoughtful, rational, and nice people who cared to tell me why they thought of the movie so highly here have made me understand the elements of the movie that I might have ignored before. Still not my favorite movie, still not high on my list, but now I understand why some people loved it.
And to the people who didn't add anything to the discussion, thank you anyway.

I thought the setting and the atmosphere were great. I wish the story had given the viewer more insight into Mary and her D.I.D(dissociative identity disorder). The tapes of her sessions were unsettling/intense and kept you guessing about what happened to her family. I enjoy films that are subtle in their intention while not tossing random things at you in an attempt to be smart. 8/10

Late 20's and watch tons of horror films of all types. I appreciate a good psychological scare over gore but this movie bored me to death. I find it seriously overrated.

But I'm not. I'm older and I've seen many movies like this in so many different languages. They're all the same. Nothing original here.
                Name them.

In response to the original post, I have to say you liked more about this film than I did!

Why ask a serious question in such a troll-ish manner?
Obviously, this movie is not totally original. But there are a lot less movies like this or "Repulsion" or "The Shining" or "La Casa Muda" than there are say gory slasher films, torture porn, or "found-footage" bullsh*t. But it seems older people with patience would tend to like this much more than young gorehounds. I'm personally a lot less young than I used to be if perhaps not nearly as old I someday will most likely be.
You could legitimately disagree that it is a classic (I would put it only behind "Let the Right One In" in terms of post-Millenial horror movies), but asking how anyone could like itthat's a bit much.
"Let be be finale of seem/ The only emperor is the Emperor of Ice Cream"

there is nothing original about this movie, that said it's still a decent psychological horror
so many movies, so little time
