In real life,I imagine he'd get a hell of a lot more problems than those depicted in this movie. From my porn watching experience, I've concluded that almost 90 % of the girls working in the industry, have serious daddy issues.
So, as it is known that any girl idolizes her dad from a very young age, dating a messed-up, traumatized, sexually abused as a child, type of girl would mean only trouble.
Oh, and I imagine the producer would do more damage to you than shown in this movie, if you 'steal' his girl. Girls are assets in porn and the industry doesn't feel good about some schmuck coming in and taking away one of their precious jewels.
Also, the chick wouldn't fall in love with you because you're a decent, regular guy. Even less so if you're a teenager. As I imagine, some girl start in the industry as teenagers themselves, so why would one decide to go
"Hell, I've been screwing producers and porn-actors for all my life now, why don't I lower my standards a bit and fall in love with say.. that guy, over there, reading comics! Yeah, why not? He seems like a nice guy"
I don' want to stereotype all the females in the porn industry as deranged individuals, but I do want to show that they're not as gullible as the main character chick in this movie appears to be. They're hard working girls, first and foremost, they're realistic about life.

Its realistic to me.
Is a great movie.
Its good some people decide to get out of that industry an find a decent guy.

Some just leave because they are tired with putting up with how dangerous and corrupt it is.

Re-watched this movie for the first time in years because a male friend of mine recently started dating a porn star, and I thought of this movie. The girl he's dating is in her late teens and really cute for a porn star, just like in this movie.
There are some overwhelming differences, though. This male friend of mine is a bad boy type (drug problems, felonies on his record) and 25 years old. He's slept with tons of women. He's a good guy for the most part, but definitely not the kind of guy a girl should settle down with at this particular point.
And while obviously not every single porn star has daddy issues/past trauma, the stats don't lie - a lot of them do. The percentage of these girls who've been sexually abused is very sad. Textbook psychology says they gravitate to the abusiveness of porn because the chaos is familiar to them. And when you're carrying that kind of baggage, you tend not to go for the adorable, functional nerd who's gonna treat you well. At least not so soon after quitting porn. IRL it'd take Danielle years of therapy to get to a stage where she'd even want a functional relationship. At the very least, there would be some really serious issues in their relationship down the line. It's hard to envision Matthew never getting jealous/pissed off at her for her past, or Danielle withdrawing emotionally from sex, or any of the usual problems regular ol' guys who date porn stars go through.
But I still love this film quite a bit and can suspend my disbelief enough to thoroughly enjoy it. In its way, it's a great modern fairy tale.
