Here is a very simple way to explain the movie.
The crazy doctor killed Jeannine Richardson live on one of his website named FearDotCom. The Doctor then moved on and Jeannine becomes a evil spirit and took control of the website to get her revenge. Every person who logged on has 48 hours to understand what Jeannine wants.
First she shows you images of herself as a white woman or a little girl in white. It is explained by her mother that she was an hemophilliac ( A single cut can make you bleed out completely ). She then shows you images of "Distressed furniture" website, wich is the new website of the crazy Doctor. She even show you the entrance location (A cooling tower, Poelzig Steel Mill).
All they had to do was following the clues, find the Doctor and give her her revenge.
Users have to "play" and 'win' within the time given or she kills them with their worst fear, sounds fair since she died by her own worst fear.. Knives.
