It was like a Clint Eastwood movie without Clint Eastwood

I mean, really, couldn't you see Clint as the crusty old emotionally distant rancher? I'm not saying that Redford did a bad job, he did just fine, I enjoyed the movie. But this was like another of the Eastwood/Freeman movies. If Redford caught the flu, they could have slipped Eastwood into that role with no problem.
I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well. -

I could certainly envisage Clint in this movie, as either Einar or Mitch. Redford and Freeman were very good, of course, and perfectly cast, but Eastwood would have been equally so. He's good at playing characters with a history; characters who are rich of character, with purpose and intelligence, a tough exterior and pride, but tenderness and understanding.
