Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Cold Case

I have all ready posted about my favorite episode Best Friends but it is such an aazing episode that I just had to post again.
This time I wanted to discuss the poetry in the story.
What we have in Best Friends is a true love story. It shows that it dos not matter who you are (male/female, black/white, old/young) when you meet that special person and fall in love that is all that matters.
The poetry in this episode really showed the amount of feeling and love between Rose and Billy. This is just my opinion and analysis of the beautiful poems.
"Sent that girl away a night ago, and don't she know its been ashes. Sent her away and don't she know it ache. Heart of mine throat of smoke, I sent a girl away and its been hell working on my skin till it be bone"
The awakening feelings Billy has for Rose. Billy wants Rose to know how much it hurt her to send her away and how she has been thinking of her.
"To Rose whose breathing is blooming. School bell shocks my heart in to moving. Spring time sends green roots through my veins. My eyes are dusted of, my blood is searching. At the bell i,m born again through the new earth aching. Moon-faced girl you are the only one I see"
The feelings are growing. Billy has to wait outside of the school for Rose and just the sound of the school bell sets her heart racing. And when all the girls exit Rose is the only one she sees.
"Those three words I have never heard together, before you made them in your mouth, chewed them soft like a sugar cane, polished them with your tongue, gave them to me sweet, and I swore I'd never get them lost. Is it how I can't find sleep, or get fed, this thing you said? Is it how my heart grows at the sight of you? Then baby yes, I Love you two"
Rose has told Billy she loves her (the first time Billy has been told this) and how hearing those words made her feel. And the fact that she can't eat or sleep and just seeing Rose makes her heart race means she loves her two.
"Tired nickle-colored night. You can take my blood and keep it, I ain't need it no more, use my broken teeth to pave your street, my splintered bones stomped for sand, if this lead-footed an should once again leave me dead, my body broken, my soul would find away, oh, night to dance with his girl again."
After getting beaten by Ted and his friends Billy is saying she dosent need her blood or her body her,s and Rose's souls are together.
"I came up from the dark without you and everyday has been in shadow. I have begged the tide to wash away my sin and take me to you in the dark but everyday I surface again. But in the spring I'am betrayed by the new earth. With you in my heart I'am born again a green bud, I'am born again blooming"
The first part is easy Rose has survived and has had to live with that all her life in darkness. The next part "I have begged the tide to wash away my sin and take me to you in the dark but everyday I surface again." To me this is Rose wanting to be back with Billy, wanting to end her life (to go to Billy in the dark) but not being able to go through with it. With out Billy by her side she can't bring her self to do it and also guilt. She made the decision and Billy died and she thinks by living with the guilt, not being truly happy is her punishment.
The ending made me think for a while but on re-watching the last lines are spoken over Billy and Rose finally reunited and walking of together so maybe these are new lines added at that point. Rose has finally been born again and she and Billy can finally bloom.
The only line I'm not sure of is "But in the spring I'am betrayed by the new earth"
This is just my humble opinion and I'am by no means a poetry expert so let me now if you agree or what you think.
And I just have to say once again Samantha Streets, Tessa Thompson and Piper Laurie where amazing.

perhaps she meant that each winter she felt like the darkness would swallow her up but when spring comes round, she feels better, happier and more positive
