Thank you. It was the first, honest story that a mistake was taken to a death. Most shows wimp out at the last minute, find the real perp or bla bla bla. Watching Law and Order I wish this had happened to them.

That was a good one, too, but the one with Will discovering that older man didn't kill that young girl is the one the OP is referring to. Both of those shows were so sad but I think the one you're referring to might be even sadder because the man Vera put in prison was branded a child murderer & that's why he was killed by other inmates but it turns out he was innocent after all & the realization of that heinous mistake absolutely breaks Vera. He spiraled out of control for a while because of that.
That kind of incident must have happened in real life because "Law & Order:SVU" did an episode almost identical to this one shortly thereafter but in that episode, the dad was exonerated.
