Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Cold Case

    miss_november85 — 14 years ago(January 03, 2012 03:50 AM)

I love Cold Case, and have been rewatching the show many times, but some of the episodes, well seems like the writers din't have any new ideas which one do yous guys think was bad, not so well written?
I personally think that the episode 8 Years from season 3 was kind off crap, boring and without a good plot and storyline
any other episode to add to the worse list??

Yeah, with so many episodes there are often a few weaker ones. But the few so far that didn't really grab me still had some redeeming qualities. I haven't ran across an episode yet that I truly hated.
8 Years - The Bruce Springsteen songs and I liked the concept of the episode.
Libertyville - The scene near the end where, against my expectations, CC took a twist and instead of
having another heat-of-the-moment rage kill, the victim manages to calm the upset man (Harry, if I remember correctly?) down and admits he should've been treated better. He opens up to him. The actual kill only happens shortly before the end, I think
. I loved how this shook the formula up a little and it saved the episode for me.
One Fall - The right person saw the victim and the use of so many of my favourite hardrock songs makes it impossible for me to hate it. But I did lose my attention throughout a bit.
Thick As Thieves - I liked the side storyline for Jeffries being torn between retiring or sticking to a job that's grown to be his life, and the scene at the graveyard between Lilly and one of the suspects had some nice humour. But the rest of the episode didn't appeal to me.

My only problem with the show is that they rarely question anyone with an attorney present and then get a confession without having to use bamboo under the fingernails. If I had gotten away with a murder for all those years I sure wouldn't talk to the cops without an attorney and I sure would not confess.

From what I've heard, people actually requesting a lawyer's not that common. Some people don't understand their rights that well or think asking for a lawyer will put further suspicion on them.
As for the confessions, some are a bit contrived. But this isn't "Law & Order" where you spend the second half with prosecutors trying to convict the badguy. A confession is always ideal for cops because it never goes away (unlike physical evidence or the memories of eyewitnesses) but if you can put someone at the scene of the crime, that's usually enough for the DA to take it from there.

8 years - Ugh..a mess from start to finish IMO.
The World's End - For the 100th episode, this was a let down. Audrey didn't deserve to die but I don't find a woman who cheated on her husband and then told him about it and how weak he was is really supposed to be inspiring or ahead of her time.
Free Love and Almost Paradise - Remakes of earlier episodesand bad ones at that.

My particular ignominious podium would be

                  1. Free Love
                  2. November 22nd
                  3. World's End

I agree with others who mentioned 8 Years and World's End. I usually skip those episodes when I see them on TV.

I really do not enjoy Resolutions. It's rather boring and being the huge animal lover I am I usually turn the channel the moment the poodle's death gets mentioned

For me, it has to be The Dealer. (Spoilers!!!)
While the music in the episode is flawless and VERY fitting to the time (absolutely loved The Stroke playing in the intro), in the end, it was just a big let down. Donna is killed in a crime of passion by the "compassionate" older guy while her thieving pr1ck of a manager, manwh0rish "top seller" and sneaky office manager or whatever he was get off scot-free and continue to lead their nasty or unfulfilling lives. Also her daughter grows up understandably jaded and thinking her mother walked out on her, no thanks to her rotten grandmother, whom she was forced to live with and who did not enjoy her company. Just left a bad taste in my mouth. There are plenty of episodes I'd like to see again, but this one isn't one of them.
You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same.

Late Returns - Absolutely horrible ending
One Small Step - Lame retread of The Sleepover
Dead Heat - Lame retread of Frank's Best. And were they really running out of sports that badly that they needed to resort to jockeying?
One Fall - Ditto about the sports, and they barely use Theresa Russell!
The Red and the Blue - Really lame, unnecessarily political.
And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!

Well, aren't many episodes "lame" retreads of others? Blackout of The Plan? Colors and Stealing Home (and to another extent, Forever Blue) of A Time to Hate? Pin-up Girl, Hood Rats and Iced of Andy in C Minor? That's one thing I find interesting about this show, seeing episodes and what twists and different interpretations each one has, since many episodes (including The Sleepover) are inspired by real-life cases or even movies.

Not really. I didn't even make those connections until you pointed it out (aside from the baseball ones of course, but that's their only common element). The ones I brought up though were just all too obvious.

Apart form One Fall and partially Dead Heat, don't agree with the others
The worst thing in late Returns is to see Lilly, the champion of justice, simply accepting the "official truth" (along with Stillman), and sort of "isolating" Scotty who really wanted to discover the real truth..we can clearly see frustration on his face when they bring Abby away..
Apart form this, I did like all the "anticipated "references to Clinton, polls, etc.very politically incorrect!
One Small Step is one of the best episodes of eason 6, of course it's very similar to Sleepover but as I had pointed out in another thread there are some differences concerning the killer's motives and the integration of the " outcast" in the group..both episodes are relaly good
The red and the blue is quite good, yes they could have avoided all the tricks about Nord and Sud but it ends up being funny with Charlene and Big daddy..

The Dealer-such a horrible ending and no one really got what they had coming in the end.
                                      Late Returns-Ditto
Blood on the Tracks-Love the Big Chill, hate this episode. So boring and I hated how it took place in '81 yet had a '60s feel to it and the Bob Dylan soundtrack did nothing for me. The only thing that saved it was Jamie Bamber.
Spiders-I can live with the racial element, but what got me is how no one stood up for that poor little girl, not even that novice lawyer of hers. Why wasn't she made a ward of the state?
The Red and The Blue-awful. Country music stinks and the politico theme to the episode made it hard to keep up with.
Christian Bale is sacrilege. Do you see any Americans playing Bond?
