Please explain the joke from the finale

When Jake says that his wife is a dancer and Alan asks if she is a pole dancer, Jakes replies "no she is Japanese." After this joke everyone looks right at the camera.
I totally missed that joke Can someone explain? -

No, it was not. It was Jake being ignorant as usual. He was asked if she was a pole dancer and did not get itsorta like you. (hint: Do you know what a pole dancer is?)

No, you didn't get it.
It's a variant of an old joke, using two meanings of the word Pole; a wood/metal cylindrical support or someone who is Polish, ie from Poland.
Eg are you a Pole Vaulter?
