I think it's purely a "I've always wanted to be a director so I can film naked chicks" thing. I'm familiar with the indy horror films in the Twin Cities and pretty much all of the films by these amateur directors include gratuitous nudity (always female). I was actually up for a part in a fan film associated with the Rob Zombie Halloween remake that involved me getting killed in just my panties. The director was bragging how it was going to be the only "officially approved" fan film, was going to be on the Halloween website, etc. etc. The audition included me stripping to my panties and the director video taping and taking photos of me while his wife made sure no one accidentally opened the door. A bunch of my other actor friends were supposed to be in it, too. Soon after the auditions, the guy just falls off the face of the earth and we never heard any more about it. What a scam!

It's the only thing worth seeing in the entire movie.

How could it not help her career? She looked good. And it is just a little realismpeople are naked pretty often. We spent more time watching her brush her teeth and she had ridiculous lotion on her face. Why don't you complain about the non-nude and fantastical "lovemaking" thrown in most films which is truly pornographic? You prudes should be well satisfied since she is not only married but also abstinent. What more could baby Jesus want?

The whole film is about a couple with a troubled marriage and the lengths that it takes for them to reconnect once again. When the film opens, they are both on their cell phones, detached from each other. He says, "This is supposed to be a vacation." They are hoping that this vacation will reunite them.
Once on vacation, they are bored and boring. Bored with life outside their normal busy world, and bored with each other. This is emphasized in the nudity. When he broaches sex, she stops him. He says, "So, how are you?" "Fine," she replies. It's static = death for the couple, and they don't even realize it.
What could be a better way to reconnect with your spouse on vacation then sex? Yet for them, it's not as appetizing as small talk.
Once they are begin attacked by the sharks, they start to argue in the middle of the ocean. He laments the lost opportunity of having sex the night before. It is in this argument that the true despair of their situation is reviled. This movie is visual about sharks, but the torture between this couple is the cause for their raw emotional pain.
That's the reason for the nudity.

it's funny to see how people still look for a reason for nudity. this is like asking why some guy wears a red shirt, or why some woman drinks red wine but not white

it was like watching bugs bunny, since there are tons of movies out there with much more explicit scenes.

What, you were expecting her to wear a Lanz nightgown? They're 20-somethings on vacation in the Bahamas. That's how they roll. This movie was based on an actual incident, so looks like the director decided to go with a documentary ambience.

Don't know about anyone else but I personally don't need any reason at all to look at Blanchard Ryan naked, ever
I think what the director was doing was showing them in a comfortable situation totally at ease and vulnarable (the nudity)which is in total contrast to where they were and what they were doing the following night.
On the other hand, the director may have just agreed with my first statement

I didn't have a problem with the nudity (her body was very nice) but the fact that she didn't want to have sex even though she's lying next to her guy naked. Talk about mixed messages . . .

I aren't complaining as i think the actress is really attractive and has a fantastic bodybut did think it was a trifle unnesecery that they filmed hr on the bed totally nakedjust had no point to the film itself
on that note..has she been in anything else?

Actually her not wanting to have sex brings up another point, it was thier last chance to have sex though she had no way of knowing that. Maybe she regretted saying no later when she realized it??
Just theorizing, once again, maybe the director just asked her if she would be willing to do a nude scene, she said yes, and he ran with it. Can't hold that against him.

Yeah, I'm thinking that it was something like that.
Or maybe, as Blanchard was what, 36 at the time, and not really what you'd call a well-known or overly successful actress, maybe she figured, what the hell, do some nudity to get noticed.

The reason for the nudity is to sell tickets.
That being said, lots of people lay around nude. Unless I'm with company, the first thing I do when I get home is take my clothes off. OK, sometimes I'll leave shorts and a tee on, but just as often everything comes off. It's just more comfortable that way. I'm surprised that anyone would think people should always have clothes on, unless they're actually having sex or a shower. Not to be offensive, but that attitude does seem prudish.
