The reason for the nudity is to sell tickets.
That being said, lots of people lay around nude. Unless I'm with company, the first thing I do when I get home is take my clothes off. OK, sometimes I'll leave shorts and a tee on, but just as often everything comes off. It's just more comfortable that way. I'm surprised that anyone would think people should always have clothes on, unless they're actually having sex or a shower. Not to be offensive, but that attitude does seem prudish. -

I'm sure there are many people who sleep naked, married or not. However, being that America was founded by a bunch of prudes, and that prudishness has come to define this country, even that little bit of nudity is a big deal, and the director knows this. Therefore, I think it was a ploy to make the males, at least, attach or care for this woman, in one way or another.

The reason is that every movie for the past 15 years has a "de rigeur" nude scene or one of people engaged in a sexual act. Apparently it is impossible to release a film these days without scenes of urination and defecation, either. The audience has been turned into voyeurs by the film makers. They are less concerned with story development than they are with attempts at gratuitous titillation.

You could argue that most nude scenes in movies are not really necessary. Then again, there are probably a lot things in movies that are unnecessary. It doesn't make it bad. -

This nude scene was really strange to me because I watched the special features and some interviews and the director said that whoever was going to be the lead had to be "completely okay with nudity" So you'd think since that was a deciding factor and it was a big part of the decision making process that the scene was something entirely important, but it wasn't. I think that the director saying that is more weird than anything. He was just determined to have a naked woman in his movie and wasn't willing to compromise? Odd.

Interesting that this thread seemingly won't die! I'm glad. Though people obviously get naked in their daily lives for various reasons, the fact that American films so often only show the female's body shows a lack of cultural sophistication. Why should a female actress have to do nude scenes to get noticed? The unfair treatment of actresses and the way women are portrayed in the media is widely documented and needs to change. Men should be naked as wellit's only natural. This substandard flick was just another example of this tired "norm". Yawn!

It was to create a sense of realism, almost like the movie was a documentary that was just peeking in on some normal peoples lives.
I doubt it was to sell tickets to young boys. The film wasn't advertised with nudity, and it's not the first thing people remember when talking about it to others.
