As I sat watching this film, I thought to myself, surely Capote's accent wasn't quite that annoying. If it was, nobody would be able to stand to be around him for long. This was my thinking.
So I watched a Capote interview on youtube..and i believe i am correct. Hoffman's accent is close to capote's.but its not identical, and capote's accent IS much more tolerable in my opinion, whereas Hoffmans, was almost insufferable.
Don't get me wrong, he did a great job with it.he just didn't nail it.
As an aside, i think Hoffman's best moment in this film, come's near the end, when he visits Perry just before his execution, and he has so much pent-up emotion and fear within him,,,,,that he's almost traumatized by what he is experiencing. His face turns red..his veins are jutting.its a phenomenally skilled moment by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

i think he was doing Capote later in life when he was all boozed up and coked up and old, half dying, like in Murder by Death era, and he used that voice for the younger Capote, in his prime, writing this book.
